I had a large German-made firework misfire about a foot in front of my face. I couldn't hear anything but high pitched ringing for about an hour, and today I have permanent hearing loss on one side.

I still love them, but I treat them with much more respect and caution now. And so should you.

I live in Virginia, fireworks are illegal in the city but that doesn't stop people on July 4th. The cops turn a blind eye because folks are being patriotic and that has me pissed. It hasn't rained for about ten days and we've had 90F temperatures every day. Half the houses have dry pine straw and leaves stuck on the roof and gutters. Fireworks are illegal here for a reason, there's a very good chance some innocent family can end up dead or homeless. The clueless people letting off fireworks will be out again tonight and the sound of sirens will follow.

@VoidingWarranties: Your story reminds me of when my sister and I were shooting bottle rockets off. She, of course, dropped hers before she got it put in the bottle and it launched at our house. As you said, it's not that dangerous as long as you can run.

@Terry: No seriously, I thought at first it was just a bad egg instillation but used it on a mates PC n it is really bad on his too.
The tearable tab's is the worst part cos it takes so long to recognize you've torn of the tab.
I guess its just from using Chrome for a while, I don't use add-ons so it's not that(one of the reasons why I don't miss anything from the jump to Chrome).
It's just really unresponsive, 3 was nippy, but I decided to give 3.5 a shot now it had so many Chrome features, but it was just annoying to use now.

the mannequin is just on fire, i don't get it. in real life the person would put the fire out if they saw it. This isn't realistic enough for me.

The only thing that video teaches is that even if you're seated completely motionless in a folder chair and have fireworks shot at your face, you'll still be just fine.

Fireworks only become dangerous when you're dealing with M80s and lots of hard alcohol.

@Terry: I find chrome hit n miss with this type of video. Youtube vid's are fine but its this type that goes funny. The loading bar kinda jumps back n so sticks at 0:00. So I tend to to crack open FF(which 3.5 is a chore now, insanely slow) to watch em instead.

That kind gentleman sitting in the chair didn't seem to have too much of a problem with the "dangers" of fireworks... I don't see why I should either!

@svenhoek: Is Not Worthy Of This Honor: Last year my friend and I were lighting some small airial fireworks when the thing tipped over and started shooting at us. We were as scared as fuck, but we didn't get hurt. Fireworks aren't that dangerous as long as you can run. ;-)

One forth of july, I got hit with one of the big shoot-into-the-air fireworks. Didn't hurt as much as you would think, Also it was really pretty, so that helped.

Also I wouldn't have an obvious cut in my tape where they set fire to the lap.

I used to be able to watch video on this site. Today, I've been unable to with both machines I've tried. The first is running Win7, and I was using Firefox 3.5. The second is running Jaunty and using Firefox 3.0.11.

So I'm thinking that something has changed around here. Anyone?

Why the cut to black before the actual "pants on fire" shot? The fireworls probably didn't light it at all, they had to cut, light it with a match then resume the recording. Tadam!
