Outside of fry's electronics, He thought he was getting a killer deal on a laptop and a sweet 20 inch LCD television.

The box art looked pretty damn good. The laptop had a picture of an HP computer along with a fry's logo, and the LCD TV screen could be seen clearly cause it was one of those half open boxes

When he got home and started opening them up, the laptop box had 2 phone books, and the "LCD screen" turned out to be the door of a small oven.

Shortly after I moved to NYC, maybe 2001, a guy sold me a very nice looking digital video camera for $80. He showed me the box in a shopping bag from Best Buy, of course I was smart enough to make that the box was heavy enough to have an expensive digital camera. It seemed shady and I was pretty broke at the time but I just couldn't pass up that deal.

I was super excited to about the prospect of making digital movies back then...

So I get to a place to check it out.... and it's a box with the Sunday Daily News inside. The box just had a couple of pages of a sale circular ad for the camera taped to the sides...

I considered it an $80 lesson on how to handle myself in New York City.

@my secret identity: Come on down to one of the many german immigrant towns in texas. It's the best of both worlds: American potato salad and ribs along side hot German potato salad and Bratwurst. Hell, throw in some carnitas and carne guisada while we're at it.

Nothing like a Tex/Mex/German weekend to celebrate the 4th.

a coworker of mine got ripped off that way. a similar con done with laptops, and inside the laptop box which he paid 300$ for = a nice size floor tile, along with a charger for who knows what
