First Aluminum iRiver E200 Pics

iRiver has some of the most stylish tech gear this side of Apple, but the upcoming E200 player looks boringly similar to its E100 predecessor, despite a new thinner, all-metal design, and a larger screen.

According to iRiver Fans (where we also found these apparent press images), the E200 has been slimmed down to 9.9mm, versus the E100’s 11.3mm.

The current model’s 2.4-inch (262-color) display has also been bumped up to 2.8-inches on the E200. According to Engadget, it may also be a brighter OLED screen.

There’s not too much else to report-the touch-sensitive controls and interface are said to be the same, so I’m left feeling kinda myeh, unfortunately. [iRiver Fans via DAP Review via PMP Today via Engadget]

    @wangstra: Is this the iRiver E200s? Didn't think so. Point proven.

    @SuramaAte: I kinda agree, their products where amzing and revolutionary back then, but now every single one of their products is horrible.

    I hope iriver learned their lesson from last time around and integrated the SD card with the on-board memory. Seriously, how effin' hard is that? cheapass phones costing half the price do this with ease!

    It's amazing how PMP makers ignore a market segment that may not be the biggest out there, but is too big to be ignored nonetheless. The one that wants small flash based players with expandable memory (again, well integrated with the main memory) JUST FOR LISTENING TO MUSIC!

    The Creative Zen X-Fi, the Sony Walkman A/S series, the iriver E100.. these are all decent players with good-to-excellent sound (iriver

    I had half the mind to go for a Sansa Fuze (which had all these features) if it didn't look like a wannabe iThing that i bought at Toys 'R Us. Silly reasoning, I know...

    I think i'm gonna wait another month or two till the reviews come out to see if the E200 is the player that suits my needs.

    Sure they look nice, but I'm sure they're going to cost at least as much as their iPod and Zune counterparts. When will people realize they can't release a player with less brand awareness, and not even match the storage of the competition?

    @wangstra: I tend to agree with you, don't worry.

    @Patrick Lerner: Was rockbox not an option?

  • shorty6049

    @wangstra: or even between the first and second iphones and ipod touches. These things look good to me

    From what I've read, it looks like the previous iRiver model sucked, and I don't see much difference between this one and the last one except a brighter OLED and the card slot for expandable storage- wouldn't be worth the upgrade of buying a new one.

  • PajamaJames

    @wangstra: Lol, yeah.

  • SuramaAte

    how are they still in business? I've never seen or heard of a person buying their stuff anymore. not since like 2000.

    the E100 SUCKED really hard. No sorting anything (all entries are sorted in the order you put them on the device), Video VERY limited and songs on SD-Card can't be selected normally and only played through a "file manager". Seriously, it was a total waste of money.

    @Toastie: 4 or 8 GB of course.

  • Toastie

    @CustomFirmware: Article says it has 4 or 8 built in

    The minimalist in me loves this.

    I think it looks nice. Nice and clean. I won't replace my ipod with it, but I might buy one anyhow.

  • MacBandit

    @CustomFirmware:

    As far as I can determine it has none except for the SD card you put into it.

  • wangstra

    Too bad the boringly similarity in looks between the iphone 3g and the 3gs didn't quite garner the same "meh" sentiment.

    It looks like it belongs in the kitchen

  • CustomFirmware

    That looks fantastic. Storage Capacity?

  • Daniel Pullen

    The back of the player kinda looks like an i mac with that thin ventilation slot

    @SuramaAte: I could go into specifics, but I'd be here for ages.

    Basically, they managed to "survive" by shunning the geek crowd and going for the sheeple market in Asia and, to an extent, the US.

    IMVHO their last great product was the iHP-100. Shame they didn't build on it and saw mega-bucks instead. I ended up selling mine to fund an iPod Video arrival :( .
