Facebook 3.0 For IPhone Adds Events, Photo Albums, But No Push

@telepheedian: You're right, that functionality should have been implemented a year ago. But I doubt that Apple would have anything to say about how resource intensive it is. If anyone tries to get in the way of that, it'd be AT&T.

I have OCD with keeping things clear. So if I get notified via push I'm going to feel the need to check it. I would just turn off the push notifications.

@SysRq: If they had the functionality out of the door, it would already be implemented. Now, they have to code on an old base, or completely rewrite the app to have it, and it could be that Apple's push service doesn't work in the way that they want it to. Also, Facebook is very resource-intensive for push, I can't help but wonder if Apple'd be willing to run that, especially for free.

I wonder if it will be less buggy now. It's a tossup now whether or not a comment will post when i use the current version of the app. Nothing better than responding to someone only to get "Error posting comment" when I post.

Yeah, it's about time Facebook mobile got a little more depth. The current one has some really annoying features.

This looks really good. I've been sort of disappointed that one of the biggest "phenomenons" of our time hasn't been better represented as an iPhone app. I use the fb app every day, but every week I go to the appstore to see if someone has made something better.

Almost anything would be better than what we have now - it's a pretty lousy app. It feels like a hobby-project, but the guy must have some exclusivity deal, since no one else has made a better (or any other) version yet.

i hate how in the current one if you have a notification that someone wrote on your wall or commented on your status and you click it, it goes to their page instead of the part of the wall or status

I still hate how the Facebook app tells you that someone commented on your picture, but when you click on the notification, it takes you to the profile of the person who commented.

I'm probably doing it wrong though.

I'm liking the new updates. Push doesn't affect me as much, I just use an exchange server with my email that pushes it to my phone for updates that I get.

Then again, if push can be set up for different types of notifications, maybe it's worth looking into. If I can set it up for specific friends that I actually give a damn about, it may be somewhat useful.

I'm just not interested in 30 notifications every 10 seconds.

People who need push updates for Facebook on their iPhone probably need to take a break from Facebook.

@SysRq: Reading again, this looks like a pretty awesome improvement, filling in just about all of the other gaps that this app had. Still bitter, but not as bitter anymore.

I don't use facebook a whole lot so people always are like, "why did it take you 10 days to respond to my wall post?" I'll actually like push because it'll probably only send me <5 messages a day.

The ability to zoom in on photos is nice but my biggest annoyance with the FB app is when viewing photos the slightest movement in any direction rotates the photo so it's difficult to keep a photo still without it switching rapidly back and forth between portrait and landscape. Their accelerometer code is fucked up or is it just me?
