@CelfDestruk: Not so sure you looked at other sewer cam videos. Water flows like that in quite a few of them. It is probably a small pipe. Sewage systems are not necessarily like in Ghostbusters.

Also, on a side note, I was skeptical at first due to the camera movement being so smooth. After viewing other sewer cam footage it's pretty clear that they are able to do this.

I'm curious as to what it is. There seem to be two camps forming. Bryozoans or tubifex worms. I don't know, I'm no expert.

Grrr, I hate it how you guys at Gizmodo always embed youtube vids, almost every corporate network blocks it, they never block vids from sites like Dvice though, or Giz for that matter. Could you not host the vid for a few days and provide the link to the youtube video also. Judging on the comments I'm not sure I would want to see this vid though.

NOT CGI. (I work in a CGI R&D department) Check the left corner of the mass at 1'22". A worm in there of some sort that curls up. It'd be easier to pull something like this off with practical effects. Either way, very very creepy.

Still a little disturbing

I would have to say that this does not look like a colonoscopy to me as the walls of the rube are quite uniform and usually in a colonoscopy (from what i know) they fill the bowel with water. Also the camera and light looks more to me like a sewercam.

I want to know why the did not use the sewer robot to poke the biomass :)

I have no idea as to where this place is by could it be in a costal region? if so maybe these are some form of sea anenomy?

I bet the City Hall of Cameron Village freaked when they saw this on youtube. So poor water dept guy got his ass chewed good today.

I personally think it's probably a viral video but the weirdest and strangest thing about it is that I actually live in the Cameron Village neighborhood in Raleigh and our street was torn up for about a week starting around 4/26, the day before the video was supposedly filmed. Just weird coincidence probably, but strange indeed. They were replacing and repairing sections of the sewer (some of which were almost 100 years old).

@Hello Mister Walrus: well, Natasha Henstridge in Species 1 was worth it; I saw number 3 and was embarrassed I rented it. Was NH also in Species 2?
Although in 2 or 3 there was this scene where the ugly Scottish/Irish (can't remember) guy gets it off really good and says in his inimitable accent "Well, I enjoyed that immensely" seconds before he gets ripped apart. That's the only things I remember from all 3 movies. Well, that and NH's boobies and bod. Sorry, could not find a video of that scene in my brief search.

I used to feed clusters of live tubifex worms to my tropical fish, and they behaved similarly.

Looks pretty convincing to me. Looks like some weird creature drinking or doing something with the water. Perhaps using it for oxygen or maybe it's living of our excrements. The way it is is attached to the walls could indicate it isn't bound to stay in one place. Strange structure too, doesn't look like something you'd find on this planet.

Thanks for the video - I had not see it before. No, these are not bryozoans! They are clumps of annelid worms, almost certainly tubificids (Naididae, probably genus Tubifex). Normally these occur in soil and sediment, especially at the bottom and edges of polluted streams. In the photo they have apparently entered a pipeline somehow, and in the absence of soil they are coiling around each other. The contractions you see are the result of a single worm contracting and then stimulating all the others to do the same almost simultaneously, so it looks like a single big muscle contracting. Interesting video.

It would be nice if they hid the string from the last one, on the upper right side. . . you can see it being pulled, then after the sponge thingy is done squeezing its juice out, the string drops. . . and if it's real, it's the most out of place strand from this creature. . . let alone, this "tunnet" looks like a small pipe. . .water doen't flow like that in a sewage pipe...
