Do You Wake ‘n Gadget?

7:40AM July 23, 2009 | Sean Fallon

After reading Brian’s rant about his right to use gadgets in inappropriate situations, I came to the realisation that most days the very first thing I do in the morning is check email on my mobile phone.

I mean, I’m still in bed and my eyes are half open. I don’t even process what I’m reading to be quite honest. So why do I do it? I’ve been conditioned to somehow—it’s a robotic, reflexive reaction. But what about you? After the alarm has been turned off, what is the very first “official act” of your day?

When I first got my iPhone I would check my email first thing when I got up but now I usually wait till I have that 5 minutes spare before I need to leave for work to check email, twitter etc.

I usually use the time between my “wake up” alarm and my “You really ought to be getting out of bed now” alarm to browse through emails and overnight twitterings on my iPhone.
On the weekends/days off work I’ll probably finish watching whatever was on as I went to sleep the night before.

A typical morning for me is rolling over, grabbing my iPod Touch and checking my emails and Google Reader. So yes Gizmodo you are an integral part of my mornings. How does that pat on the back feel?

    Yes. Email, news, rss,
Its a bad habit, you could blame our time zone though as most big things always happen when we sleep..

Absolutely, the moment I turn off my alarm I immediately check my email. And then possibly Twitter before a shower.

I actually manage to remain unconnected until I get to work. I usually spend my morning, making coffee, preparing breakfast, and then heading out the door.

I used to check my RSS feeds while drinking my coffee, but now I just head out so I can grab another coffee from a local cafe on the way to work.
