Last time I was there they seemed alive and well.

Narrow Roads + Incredibly lax no pass zones + Unbelievably ballsy NZ drivers = some of the most wreckless driving I've ever seen in a western nation. They may not hold a candle to driving in Asia but NZ drivers are borderline lunatics. In my short time in NZ I saw two almost fatal head on collisions and dozens of 'near misses'.

If you visit NZ make sure your rental car has a lot of HP. You're going to need to be able to pass... and pass quickly if you want to get around.

My favorite sign in NZ was a "Do Not Pass" sign. 20 feet in front of a 1 lane wide tunnel. Just about anywhere else I would shrug it off as a silly sign. In NZ I assumed it was in response to people actually trying to get around and cut back in before slamming headlong into the side of a cliff.

@Purple Monkey Dishwasher: I have to agree. You need a lot more time to collect the 'data' to really know for sure this works, or for that matter, will continue to work. Besides, what if all the bad drivers in New Zealand have already killed themselves off by now?

No wonder there are no more fatalities, I would completely avoid that road. It would completely disturb my concentration and the important part: It would shit myself.

The next step for this Ad company would be to send SMS messages to drivers as they pass beneath the billboard about the dangers of texting while driving.

My personal favorite is the Don't Drink And Drive bottle opener keychains. What genius thought that one up?

@Shawn Pero: I must have missed that. I guess other data you need is how many deaths there normally are in that time period historically. I'm just skeptical that a billboard, although shocking, can really change aggressive drivers. It seems like nothing really changes people when it comes to aggressive driving.

Unfortunately this shock type of awareness will only last for awhile. Soon the billboard will fade into the back of their mind and old habits will creep back up.

Or you can punish people who tailgates/speeds in the rain by punching them in the face until they bleed like that kid on the billboard.

There's a key piece of information missing, how long have they been in place? Anyone can say there hasn't been a single accident since they are in place if it's only been a day.
