A few months back i attended a Blackberry Training Workshop. There i met a programmer who described this 'trackpad' to myself in front of the blackberry employees. To their astonishment and how the guy got his hands on such device they cheekily denied knowing of this 'trackpad' and then took him aside telling him to be quiet.

Although i never saw the trackpad first hand. Comparing the photos above with what i was informed about seem to go hand in hand.
