So.... You really think that gamers want to spend $1,500 - $2,600 plus the costs of upgrading various parts as they become obsolete faster than the speed of sound over spend $200 - $400 for a system that will play everything you throw at it?

Now, I understand that you didn't lose your wealth in the economic downturn but common folks either lost their jobs or in some cases, never had employment to begin with. The point is, your idea is only feasible if a person has a lot of time and money to burn.

@Toastie: Well, personally I know that my roomie whom is a pilot would love to have one. Can his laptop also play games yes, but it can't play 360 games aginst other people on xbox live. And arguably that's the biggest draw of the 360 at the moment. Playing against your friends whom also have 360's from anywhere.

@americandanger: I gotta agree, Microsoft should hire this guy (or at least hire him as a "consultant"). Even if he isn't involved in the initial design of the said console, Microsoft could pretty much throw together a plethora of different parts for whatever game console they're designing, throw them at Ben Heck, and challenge him: Here, fit these in (whatever form factor they're looking for)! I'm sure he'd be up to the challenge.

@PajamaJames: I don't think he'll start making real money until he learns how to use a camera and give a presentation or hires someone who can.

@Amir Oulad: I water cool a couple of gaming rigs I own. I would be more afraid of the reservoir clunking around during (most likely) rough transport. Could end up with epic water fail.

@Wewtaco: If you look at the "Making Of" on that one with the keyboard, it was an incredibly complex procedure that probably wasn't worth the effort in the end.

@JellyDoodle91: and play 360 games how again? most laptops aren't the best for video gaming, some are sure, but the whole xBox 360 idea is great. I'd rather play 360 video games with this, than the equivalent on a pc, as the graphics would be better I think.

I don't think I would buy one of these since I have an xbox live account, unless this doesn't count as a modded console.

@ZombieRace: As long as you kept the GPU cool, this wouldn't be an issue.

what I don't understand is that he can make one of these on his own, but Microsoft can't design, build, and widely manufacture this for the market? It may seem like a niche market since people primarily play xbox live over the internet these days and no longer need to take their consoles to friend's houses and whatnot, but I think this would be great for LAN parties. Or like if you wanted to travel with your 360 all the time.

@[www.kproxy.com] to avoid WebSense. The problem with that is that I get re-routed through France, get French versions of websites, and it takes for-fucking ever to get anywhere. Not to mention having to press "cancle" thousands of times when I'm prompted to login to the internet (legally.) Needless to say, I don't go that route much.

Id just make a giant laptop case out of a cardboard box, then put an xbox 360 inside it along with an lcd monitor and all the cables. BAM! laptop 360!

I have to ask...please do this to a PS3, not only because it would look awesome, but also put Linux on it and allow it to be used like an actual PC.

I dunno, I suppose it wouldn't be hard to make some low profile knobs. I'm just talking out of my ass at this point.

@Toastie: This thing would RULE as simply a portable gaming system, and netflix media, play movies, games, music from etc. I'd take this over a laptop for traveling anyday. This would be amazing when sitting in an airport or hotel room etc. most people take their laptops for work I understand, but I would think mainly for email 80% of the time, which can be done on a cell phone. I'm not bagging, just saying how could this NOT be badass to lug around? Hell, throw it on a power converter and have a nice protable gaming rig for long road trips. (you could mount one in car I know, but this can easily and comfortable (portable) be removed from the ride when leaving vehicle unattended etc. and you could use anywhere there's power. I love it personally.

Why do people want these so much!? There are laptops that can play more games, with better graphics, and also work as a laptop. Besides the Wii laptop mod none of these bring anything that good to the table. Don't get me wrong Ben Heck is awesome and so is his work, but it's more of a "I can do this" thing than an item that would make sense in the marketplace. What would make more sense is computer games that come with built-in offline multiplayer options.

@americandanger: Uh huh, you know what would also be cool! If it could also run an OS like Win 7, that way you could browse the internet and use it like a laptop while also playing video games on it! I mean who needs a laptop that can play more games than a 360 with better graphics when you could have an xbox 360 laptop!

This could potentially hit a new market segment... tailgate parties! Seriously, this offers interesting new possibilities.
