ATV Powered By A Jet Engine Could Be Batman’s Golf Cart
Batman normally likes to stretch his legs and have trunkspace for a few accidental dead bodies. But he might pilot an ATV powered by a jet engine on a weekend at the links.
John Carnett modded brand new Polaris RZR 2-seater ATV with a grey market, 40-year-old turbine. The result is a 114db joystick-driven vehicle that spews out 1300°F exhaust to achieve around 100kph. And it sounds glorious.
Our only regret is that Carnett was too sane to take his jet ATV over any sweet jumps. Give him time, though. A guy who builds stuff like this has to be slipping a bit. [PopSci]

And, the deer will never hear him coming.....cool.

It's more expensive, it's less reliable, it offers less control, it's slower, and it's loud enough to piss off the neighbors so that they flatten all of your tires in the middle of the night.
Guy has too much time on his hands.

@mensrea: Grow up. Both of you.
@MDevonB: it's only fun if he jumped a car or 8!! ;-) good share
@Kingteddybear: yep! +1
The original engine would have gone that fast, I suppose "because he could" falls into play here
@mensrea: Have you heard the saying about arguing on the internet?
@Kingteddybear: And gotten him more places too boot.
Take that thing out after a dry spell and I can see those hot exhaust gases setting the woods on fire.

And, hypothetically speaking, where would "one" get a grey market, 40-year-old turbine, if "one" were so inclined? Hypothetically speaking...

Why would you waste the time and money to make it slower than stock? Buy a turbine motorcycle or something if thats what gets your motor going.
Ok it's sorta cool to have a jet powered ATV but does anyone else feel like it's a fail because the stock engine would probably push it faster?

@mensrea: Good mode of transportation and fun as far as I'm concerned. Bad place to drive it however.
@The Analrapist: Out of curiousity, does making fun of him counteract what he said?
@mensrea: He was out of line, but your response makes you seem like a 22 year old that just got called out for having a small tinkler.
MDevonB
Does he have a spark arrestor on that exhaust for driving in the woods... yeah, didn't think so
Never been to a Monster Jam event I assume?
Couldn't find a video of the snowmobile I remember seeing, but this is good enough:

@mensrea: +1 good sir!!!
Magic Beans? Sure, I'll Buy Some!!
Hmmm, knowing a little about turbines I'd say driving that thing through the woods with 1500+ degree exhaust gets him to the front of the line for the Darwin Awards!
BYPASS ON!
COOLER ON!
CLEAR!!!
Dude, we get it. You've got a turbine and it's really exciting for you. Just don't stand up. We don't need to see your li'l pup tent. Drive away li'l doggie.
Magic Beans? Sure, I'll Buy Some!!
Too bad thats slower than the stock engine...
@The Analrapist: Better check those psychic powers friend. I don't 'fear' anything that the province of fraidy-cats, my '74 Camaro is bored 40-over, lawyer-not a 'hippy'. So I'll see your 'don't know what the fcuk your talking about,' and raise you STFU!
Dooshbag drives at reckless speed down public thoroughfare in a ridiculous jet powered contraption he's afraid to drive over 60 out in the wood were he could only hurt himself. Prowess??? How much is he paying you?
This is not a golf cart is a badass machine without the turbine. Now if he could have kept the 1100cc engine, that goes over 60mph any way, and add the turbine for extra boost that would be sweet.
@mensrea: Well for a tree hugging hippy douche that won't fart for fear of global warming with no balls like yourself would think this was Idiotic. I think the fact that the guy has the engineering and mechanical prowess to build this is bad ass, as is the ATV.
that is definitely my beloved philadelphia. and definitely dude going the wrong way down a one lane, one way street in a jet powered golf cart. i shall consider myself warned.
"Dooshbag Builds Idiotic Mode of Transport/Fun." There, fixed. [Yes I know it's spelled wrong.]
