AnalogColor Ruins Quality Photos To Create Mock-Polaroid Results

For those who cared enough to be hurt at the death of Polaroid Instant Film but not enough to make it themselves, there’s AnalogColor, which turns your crystal-clear photos into murky, nostalgic simulacrums of the classic format.

There’s definitely other software that’ll do this kind of thing, but AnalogColor lets you create faux-Polaroids by degrading your current photos in several different ways, including those fun streaks that resulted from light leaks. It’s available for $US10 on OS X and Windows. [Pentacom via Wired]

    @TrollSlayer: thank you sir
  • Corey Lake

    There's also the ShakeItPhoto app for iPhone that does this as well.

    Awesome links. Definitely like actions better than stand alone programs so I can still tweak in PS.

    I wouldn't really call it "ruining" the photos if you want them to have the polaroid aesthetic. Doing it digitally kind of misses the point, though, since a big part of the fun was getting unexpected results from the camera instead of doing the mistakes yourself.

    @TrollSlayer: Zing!

  • Roy Morris

    Yea, its so nice that Adobe just gives out photoshop for free! Oh wait... or was that was the pirate bay?

    @TheCrudMan: We do?

  • LouisJebber

    So originally after thousands of dollars of graphic software to correct all this, we now would want to invest more money to revert back. Hmm, makes all the logical sense in the world to me!!!

    @meow-mixer: As long as you take your pictures in a well-lit area, you're not likely to get poor quality photos; 3mp 3GS or not. Besides, this process doesn't degrade the quality of the photo, technically speaking. The colors get muddied up for aesthetics.

    No, but he had a pole on roids.

    @met2art: Didn't Dr. Manhattan have a polaroid....

  • Rob

    I hate this color adjusted look and how much it has been catching on in the art photography world. It was cliche before it even caught on.

  • TheCrudMan

    I love doing color correction like this on video, etc...get some nice looks. Don't really see paying $10 for something that doesn't offer a huge amount of flexibility...most of us already have photoshop.

    @met2art: I'm pretty sure Buzz Aldrin was the first to shake it like a salt shaker.

  • Leonce

    I hardly see the point of the frame. But the picture looks nice.

    @crumb: Why would you want your iphone pictures even lower quality than they already are?

    Will this allow them to be recognizable?

    meow-mixer

  • met2art

    @yungjerry703: Yes, because they brought Polaroid cameras with them... didn't you all see the footage of the astronauts snapping pictures, then shaking them, and then huddling around to see each photo?

    :P

    @dogfish67: No, no. In Chinatown the old men just complain that you don't cross the street when there is a green light.

  • dogfish67

    @evilR3: It was easy. He's usually standing there complaining about Social Security and asking for money! jk....:)

  • evilR3

    damn how did you get that photo of my dad?

  • rudeadly

    or you can get the iphone app that guy Nick Campbell made for 99 cents. SHAKE IT

  • RoboChop

    For 10 bucks I think this is dope.

    Wabi-sabi, yo.

    Generally digital snapshots suck. They lack soul. Making them worse is the only way to make them better.

    There's also an iPhone app that does this called Polarize. It was $2 last I checked. Pretty worth it.

  • TonyRockyHorror

    there's also tons of free Photoshop action sets that will do this for free and even good, free standalone software like:

    [www.poladroid.net]

    and the action set:

    [rawimage.deviantart.com]

    tons of options! and i suspect that analog color is just packaging what the above do in a paid format.

    Yeah, sometimes I add noise and desaturate to help a pic that's a little wanting, but this is taking that into the realm of Lomo-philes.
