Southern Cross Launching One HD July 2

Gizmodians living outside the major metropolitan areas who have been hanging out for access to the 24 hour HD sports channel, One HD, your time is almost here.

TV Tonight is reporting that Southern Cross 10 has today announced that they’ll be flicking the switch on July 2 at 7pm for the new One HD channel in regional NSW, Queensland, ACT and Victoria. They’ve also stated that Tasmanian viewers will get the channel at the same time. It will be broadcast on channel 50 (weird) and will be subject to digital coverage.

TV Tonight also has a series of regional coverage maps for each of the eastern states (and territories) except Tasmania, so if you’re wondering if you’ll get the new channel, make sure you check out the TV Tonight post.

    Gizmodians hanging out for sport?
    Isn’t that a contradiction of terms? ;)
I for one think the current ‘test broadcasts’ are more entertaining than 24 hour sports…

The reason its on channel 50 is to avoid the cross over in places that get both channel 10 and southern cross like the gold coast, i think, because all the commercial channels are off from the logical numbers.

Do any of the city giz readers know how much of one HD is actually native HD and not just SD stuff broadcast on the HD channel?

  • Quasar

Too bad they are wasting the bandwidth on a lame sports channel.

To the peopel that don’t have it already: You aren’t missing out on much!

Can we just have a boycot of any One HD news until they put back Angel and Battlestar Galactica on Ten HD?

OneHD is great.. there’s always something to watch..
If you’re still watching broadcast TV for TV shows, what are you doing reading Giz?
Sport is the last bastion of Live TV.. It’s a futureproofing move by Ten, I bet the others are pissed they didn’t do it first..

AFL replays are good to catch up on..
NBL Playoffs have been on recently.. I’m no basketball fanatic, but it’s something different..
Slamball is fun to watch (basketball with mini-tramps for super jumping abilities)
NASCAR is boring (for me, but I’m sure rev-heads might have some interest)
Red Bull air race is coming..

One is the channel I turn to when there’s nothing on (ie always)

As far as I’m aware the majority of the content is proper HD, it’s certainly all widescreen.. but I don’t have an HDTV so it doesn’t bother me.
They broadcast One in SD and HD in the cities.. I presume it will be the same for regional.

I for one am looking forward to OneHD. There is little else on regional areas on so called FreeView. It is annoying watching Chanel Ten News and Sport and constantly being told you can watch this live on OneHD when it hasn’t been available. Well now it is. Bring it on!!!

    • DAR1US

Well, well. Thats a relief. Good to hear, us Tasmanians love our sport…

  • Fred

Well it is 12:25am on July 3 and still no OneHD for northern Tasmania yet. What has happened?

  • peter owen

One ten, thankyou thankyou thankyou as a baseball fan I can now view my favoret sport.

  • Craig

Anyone know why OneHD isnt up and running in Tassie

  • mark

:( how long does it take to get OneHD to get up and running in tasmania, Yet again tasmanians are left off the map, and im not even tasmanian but live here.
A acouple of weeks ago TDT ie tasmanian digital Tv(telecasts 10): was in negotiations with OneHD to telecast in tasmania and announce that it will start at the begining of july
Ilove sport ,sitting here in anticipation to flick the channel over to One HD
    WHEN< WHEN ppl ask

  • sim

I read on wikipedia that one hd was going to be broadcast to tasmania but the dicision was reversed after fightig beetween southern cross and tdt about afl broadcasting. Im not tasmanian but they deserve to get one hd as much as any other place in australia.
