Sony’s VidZone Music Video Channel Launches Tonight

vidzone-kingsofleon2I was excited by VidZone when it was announced because it seemed like the precursor to true video on demand for the PS3. And now it’s here.

The service is ad supported, and from the screenshots Sony sent through it looks like the ads are fairly unobtrusive. They reckon that there’s three weeks of solid music playback from launch, although for an old-school rocker like me, the quality of the music on offer is still open to debate. And of course, there’s still no mention of when we’ll get movies or TV shows, although that’s to be expected considering the fact that they’re only just launching this service.

We’re not sure what time tonight the service will switch on, but feel free to tell us what you think of it once it’s live.

I don’t see it on the store yet. Interesting that Wikipedia claims that Vidzone launches on June 18th in Aus…

Oops, the Wikipedia page is updated (I’d only looked 5 mins ago) with June 11th for Aus.

Quickly checked this morning and it is now available on PS Store, 23MB + update when you first run it.

Seems like a nice service – like a personal “Rave” show – although the interface feels a bit sluggish on certain actions.

Downloaded it and was pretty impressed – good to see you can put it on full screen. I don’t even remember seeing an ad, so they’re definitely unobtrusive.

Agree with Flame that it can be a little bit sluggish, but still – for free it’s pretty great. It made for great background music while I was cleaning the house, can only imagine it would be handy for parties and bbq’s as well.
