Apple’s new ad takes solid aim at Microsoft’s recent much-talked-about Laptop Hunters ad series with the Apple style fully intact. In other words, it’s really, really smug.
The ad has a Lauren-type actress give her list of specifications, and of course, bunch by bunch, the drab-suited PCs are disqualified until she gets to “something that works,” at which point all the remaining PCs leave. Since we’ve been seeing some flames for criticising the Laptop Hunters series, let me be one of many to say that I hate this and all other “I’m a Mac” ads. Sure, Laptop Series was kind of fluffy and without either substance or style, but at least it wasn’t condescending and smug. Now, what say you, commenters? [Apple]

Wednesday, May 13, 2009 at 5:27 PMi’m sure there are more than a couple virus writers who are getting a little sick of all these “macs don’t get viruses” claims. its like going up to your friend whos being mauled by a bear and dancing around going “look at me, i’m not getting attacked, i’m impervious to bear!” poking the bear with a stick as you do it.

Wednesday, May 13, 2009 at 7:03 PMWhat’s stupid about this ad is that ‘all PCs’ are represented as looking the same. Yet PCs come in a huge variety of endless designs whereas Macs are all cookie-cutter replicas.
My PC has never frozen or had the blue screen of death. I don’t even know why I have a restart button. I have to use Macs at uni and they freeze all the time. I used one the other day which kept randomly rebooting.
Sure Macs done get viruses but you’re certainly paying for that feature. You can get antivirus for $40 a year and a PC that costs half as much as a Mac with similar specs. Macs are status symbols for smug, computer illiterate morons.
They should make a PC ad with a kid and ask him ‘What do you want your computer to do?’.
