Hulu Gets Even Harder to Watch Outside of US

7:59AM May 7, 2009 | Matt Buchanan

The “easy” way to watch Hulu if you’re not awesome enough to reside the You Ess of ‘ey is to connect through an anonymous proxy that made it look like you were connecting from inside the US. That doesn’t work anymore, since Hulu is now blocking anonymous proxies.

The problem here is the excessive use of the anonymous proxy by the masses. I use another method to download region restricted content, but it involves a hosted VPS for around US $8 per month (100GB transfer) and some unix knowledge (ie; proxy setup). This might be a bit advanced, but I imagine some gizmodians out there are already visualizing the win.

VPSlink is reliable and cheap for this, and as long as you dont give your proxy access out to the masses, you wont get blocked.

Smacks of inequality in my opinion. The whole argument of licence control seems to fall flat when weighed against the end result of people going with bit-torrent instead. Since they cant price gouge money from anyone external to the US they block it instead..nice one
