HP Recalling 70,000 Laptop Batteries Over Fire Hazard Concerns

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission has announced a recall of 70,000 lithium-ion batteries used in Hewlett-Packard and Compaq laptops. Apparently, there have been at two reported cases where the batteries caught on fire.

The battery packs were sold separately and in laptops between August 2007 through March 2008. Naturally, if you think you might be affected, it might be a good idea to check and see if your battery matches the ones pictured in the gallery before using it again. My HP laptop battery exploded right after I closed it about a month ago. Black smoke went all over and my bed spread caught on fire. Three days later, it just caught on fire and flames shot to the ceiling. It was not plugged in. Miraculously, I had it stored in an empty bin on my crafty truck and our first AD Dale, on “Curb Your Enthusiasm”, doused the flames. I feel so fortunate it was not at home or in my car or in a cubbard! The recall came out right after I sent it back to HP. I am still waiting to see what they are going to do about it.
