Like a deluxe version of the DIY MintyBoost AA charger, here’s a DIY that explains how to assemble a USB charger that is not only rechargeable—with a Lithium Polymer battery—but also solar powered.

For this DIY, you will need an Altoids tin, a $US20 MintyBoost kit, lithium polymer battery chargery, solar cell, velcro, tape, scissors, pliers, metal shears and a soldering iron among other similar tools. Although putting this charger together sounds quite difficult, the outcome is pretty cool and it’ll save you a few bucks on your electric bill as it gives your phone a minty-fresh boost.
