X-Men Origins: Wolverine Kingston Flash Drive Has Us Reaching For The ‘Why?’ Basket

Gizmodo AU

kingston xmen usb.jpgI’m all for movie paraphernalia. Especially when the movie is based on a comic book. Action figures, toys, soundtracks, keyrings… But a Wolverine branded flash drive? Maybe if it was in the shape of a dogtag… but it’s not. So why would anyone spend $40 for 8GB of X-men branded USB drive?Sure, there’s some ‘special content’ on the stick (story, trailer, wallpaper, IM icon and coming attractions, apparently), but all that stuff you can presumably find online for free. So what’s the appeal in a Wolverine branded USB stick? Can anyone tell me? Really, I want to know.

I agree, funnier that Kingston/Wolverine ads are on the Gizmodo site as well. And the stick will be useless once the graphic rubs off the metal!

Possibly a prrsent from mum or dad for the kiddie eho has a burning need for a usb key….. ok that’s a stretch. There is no market for this, if it was in a more outrageous form factor it might sell itself, but this is tame…. epic fail

I agree completely with your post. Whoever created marketing campaign with this product needs to be let go of. In this day and age USB flash drives can be made from any material into any shape, and unlike years ago they are inexpensive to produce. Like you said USB Dog Tags would be the most appropriate shape for X-Men Origins. In my opinion this X-Men Origins custom USB drives is epic marketing failure.
