What Was the First Gadget You Ever Bought?

We had a lot of fun reminiscing about our first albums during our Listening Test week, so I thought I would play off of it and ask: what was the first gadget you ever bought?

Keep in mind that we are talking about the first gadget you decided to buy with your own money. I’llstart off by saying that the first gadget I can recall buying myself was a Discman at a Caldor for around $US100. That was a lot of birthday money at the time, but I got many years of good use out of it.

Omg, I have that exact same discman and I still do- I’m not sure if it works anymore though. The earphones got all dusty and icky from long years of disuse.

Not the first true gadget I owned – that was probably a hand held game – but the first I bought with my own money was a VIC-20 computer in 1982, after saving money from my paper round. It had 3.5k of free memory! I would say that there is no user-created file on my G5 iMac that small.

I recall buying a maroon coloured Sanyo ‘walkman’. It was my companion on all car trips and excursions for years until I finally got a blue Sony Discman with the G-protection.
