The Commonwealth Bank’s iPhone app went live this morning on iTunes, and it seems a little underdone. Which is odd, considering the iPhone has been available for 9 months now…Access to your account information, for example, just launches Safari to log into your bank details – something that can be done by saving a bookmark to your homepage. And the ATM/Branch locator functions actually require you to type in your suburb/address and select your state, rather than using the GPS function of your iPhone like the St. George/Westpac apps provide.
If you’re a Commonwealth Bank customer, it’s still a free download which will make access to your account easier, but it seems to lack anything that would really make it stand out as a banking app…
[iTunes - Thanks tipster!]

Friday, April 17, 2009 at 5:08 PMSuch a half-arsed attempt, I would have thought they’d the resources to invest in a full blown App utilising the various functions of the iPhone (eg: GPS for bank locating). Bookmarking their mobile NetBank is just as good.

Saturday, April 18, 2009 at 4:33 PMiPhone apps for banks don’t seem particularly useful to me. When are you super urgently going to need access to all your bank account details, and not going to have access to a computer of any sort, and need to resort to using your iPhone to pay a bill, or transfer money?

When traveling it’s easier to take the iphone than a laptop, and if you have the need to transfer money onto a credit card or into your keycard account, you’ll need access to the net. Having an iphone app makes sense that way…
