A CNN in-depth investigation peels back the shadows with the grippy tongs of journalism to reveal a highly disturbing phenomenon: iPhones are sensitive to water.
Kristile Cain took her iPhone to the Apple Store when the headphone jack started flipping out. She almost got a new one, until the Genius spotted the moisture indicator: Her iPhone had been moist. But she had never dunked in water! Is the iPhone so absorbent it simply pulls water out of the air?
“My only guess is that when I take a shower, I always put the phone on the counter, and the steam must have caused [condensation] .” Oh. [CNN]

Sunday, April 26, 2009 at 9:23 AMSame experience. I took my malfunctioning iPhone into Apple store and was told after the “genius” ( their designated title for tech assistents ) checked it out that I would get a free phone to replace my current phone. But then… he noticed the moisture strip had been triggered. No new phone , no honoring of service contract, no anything. A Belgian consumer testing service has reported using the phone in misty rain causes malfunctioning. These phones also showed the exposed to moisture strip triggered. Shame on Apple, shame!!!
