We all want cheaper broadband. To get it, we need to lay undersea cables to connect us to the rest of the worls. To lay the cables, someone needs to put it on a boat. And it needs to be done by hand.In the clip above, you’ll notice one guy walking in circles, with another guy sitting down. After a while, they swap. That process will go on for the entire month of March this year, manually laying down 4,700km of cable metre by metre into the ship, Tyco Durable. Then they’ll keep going, laying down another 2,200km into another ship, Tyco Decisive.
If that’s not enough to make you go crazy, I don’t know what is.
And the next time you start whinging about how crappy our broadband is, spare a thought for the guys that are working to make it better…

I take it this is for the PIPE networks cable? If so those guys are doing the entire country a service right now.

Those guys are heroes, and I would buy each one of them a case of beer of their choice.

It makes me sick just thinking about it. Luckily I can’t see the video cause of my workplace filter. Really would have thought machines would be doing the loading on to the ships in this day and age

Why on earth can’t this be done with a machine? Surely it would be quicker, cheaper, and more reliable than winding a really really long cable by hand.
