Flame War: Plasma or LCD?
Which flat panel technology is the best? LCD or plasma? Get mean, get personal, because you can’t be banned for anything you say in this thread. And anecdotes are as valid as scientific study.

LCD. Always LCD
Kuro. Always Kuro.
OLED.. LCD and Plasma will soon be dead
LCD has never been a acceptable format if you care to enjoy what you are watching.
LCD fanboys are more annoying than Bush lovers
LCD sux period
The fact plasma is a fading Market just shows that any idiot can buy a tv and be suckered in to all the crap that their salesman is telling them
LCD. My gf had a perfectly good Samsung LCD, which for some reason her family decided to trade for a bigger Samsung Plasma, and I wish they didn’t. The Plasma is MUCH poorer quality picture, it’s grainy as all hell. There are other major minor annoyances, like the Plasma takes AGES to turn on, there’s quite noticeable screen burn-in when using the HTPC, it uses a lot more power and gets a lot hotter then the LCD.
Buying Plasma TV’s helps funds Terrorism, and causes AIDS. If you’re not careful, bringing a plasma into you’re home may also impregnate you’re wife and pet, and their offspring will be born loving apple products.
So not only should you buy LCD, you should also hunt plasma’s with a baseball bat and/or shotgun, so they don’t spawn more brain dead abominations.
Whoever affordably reaches 240Hz first
Plasma.
I want to watch a movie or play a game, not work on an excel spreadsheet.
LCD, because you can’t afford the Pioneer. :-)
Despite the many scientific tests that prove Plasma is generally better than LCD it seems that I agree with MERman.
Several whitepapers have been written over the years that scientifically prove Plasma has more even brightness and colour across the whole panel than LCD.
The whitepaper that I have access to was sponsored by Pioneer but the testing was done independantly by IDC who then contracted an independant tester.
This was written in 2005 and since then obvious developments have improved both Plasma and LCD technology.
The results were stunning. You can read the report at:

In summary here are the tests and which wins:
Brightness ageing – Plasma
Black levels – Plasma
Full brightness viewing angles – Plasma
White and colour brightness uniformity – Plasma
Colour accuracy – both similar
Direct view colour accuracy – both similar
Side view colour accuracy – Plasma
Other issues and myths:
Burn in – Plasmas do burn in but in fact can self heal by playing a movie loop for 24 hours.
In the test LCD did not show perceptably burn in.
Speed of updating the screen has been a problem in LCD for years. If find Watching fast action on LCD painful and eye straining.
It has come a long way but Plasma is still much smoother in my opinion.
LCD vs Plasma lifespan. Plasma=60,000 hours LCD varies from 30,000 to 60,000 dependant on manufacturer and quality of panel.
The biggest advantage that LCD has is the cost of production is much lower.
Without a doubt most independant tests where people are shown both plasma and LCD screens that are similar in spec, the Plasma wins.
