Look around your home: does the same drab colour stare back at you? Does the lack of interesting, engaging artwork drive you to depression and anxiety? Well, as we showed you last week, it doesn’t have to be that way. Australian company Vinyl Designs is partnering with Giz to give away 10 of their retro wall stickers so you guys can create art on your very walls! To enter, all you have to do is tell us which of the Vinyl Design‘s retro designs is the best and why (hit the link to check them out). And to make it interesting, lets have responses in the form of a rhyming couplet.
Entries close 5pm next Monday (Feb 2, 2009) and winners will be announced on the Tuesday (Feb 3).

The rubix cube represents, to me,
what I wish my life could be
neat and matched perfectly
with a mysterious, simple complexity
Unlucky for me, that’s not the way
staring at plain white walls every day
with this rubix cube, I hope I’ll be able to say
that the mismatched patterns of my life will change
To force the point, in addition
Report PermalinkI’m severely poverty stricken
because I made the stupid decision
to be a student with a cocaine addiction.

I feel this is a test,
Report PermalinkBut the barcode is the best!
The design is just pure,
It’s more than I can endure,
Not many people may know,
That pacman might kill the show,
A more interesting fact than that,
Is that the barcode is behind a mac!

Lamp, lamp, lamp.
All I want is you.
Stamp, stamp, stamp.
Stick it on, phew!
I’d love to win this prize,
Report PermalinkIt would really mean a lot.
Make sure you be wise.
And get the post man to stick it in my slot.

I have got a big white wall
and a room of empty space
when my friends video call
I give a closeup of my pimply face
If I stuck some space invaders

I’ll might impress my neighbours

Tribute to The ‘Falling Blocks”
When the mind is blank,
Report PermalinkAnd to be quite frank.
When I see falling bricks,
My mind simply clicks.
When my mind is in tatters,
Nothing else really matters.
As long as there’s these blocks,
The world around me rocks!!

squares make up shapes, that drop from the sky
and fall into place, fill gaps where they lie
you hum this sweet tune, a russian folk song
you get all fat pieces, when you really want long
as lines disappear, more shapes come from top
more holes start occurring, getting harder to stop
your building gets higher, becoming less clean
til no blocks can fall, which fills up the screen
the speed is a challenge, and skill is a must
Report Permalinkpreemptive reflexes,a geometric lust
my mind does rotations, as faster they fall
can i please have tetris, here on my wall?

A vinyl decal, how much is it worth,
Report Permalinkhaving the colours of Tetris, pacman, a barcode or two
To fill my drab cubespace with some mirth
along with a fake vista of Bamboo.

The winner no doubt, is Invaders from Space,
but the wife wont agree, “tis not right for our place”.
Now I’m confused, I thought couplet was two
but most entries are longer, aside from a few.
So to be safe, a few lines more,
I’ll speak of my youth, of invaders galore.
Of monotone tubes, with a spattering of green.
a coin sucking monster, a demonic machine.
Don’t dare pull that plug, you’ll lose my high score,
Ten trillion and one or perhaps even more.
’78 was the launch, a very good year,
our dear Tomohiro, we wish you much cheer.
Now, who would have thought that some 30 years on,
The new fashion is vinyl, I thought it was gone.
So ignore my wife’s bitchin’ and adorn my wall,
Report Permalinklet me zap those invaders, each three inches tall.

“Invasion! Invasion!”
My little one cried.
He sat with the remote,
changing channel ’till they died.
“They’re getting faster!”
Report PermalinkI exclaimed with glee.
For winning was not as fun,
as pretending could be.

Tetris on my wall? Heck yeah!
All my guests will stop and stare.
Some might ask “What are these shapes?”
To them i say, “You ignorant ape!”
“That’s tetris, yes, a game quite old,
Report PermalinkInvented before your head went bald.
So dont insult what you don’t know!
Go learn something at Gizmodo!”

I was hesitant to enter this inter-galactic rhyming competition,
Report Permalinkbut with a quick glance at the posts so far, I have but a clear mission.
Its to invade this space with a touch of retro rap disposition.
Pac man can get aquatinted with my wall,
for now he will be plastered in a horizontal feeding position.

Funky Bubbles on my wall,
Report PermalinkWhat’s the matter with them all?
Some are big and some are small,
Just like that of various balls.
I’m just waiting for them to fall,
But alas, time just seems to stall.

In just over a month, I’ll own my own dwelling,
But for the next 30 years, to the bank I’ll be shelling,
Out my hard earned cash, with little to no “thanks”,
Even when I install some rain water tanks.
But, alas, I digress, this rhyming couplet,
Seems to have kicked the proverbial bucket.
Some retro Vinyl Stickers would be just the thing,
Long story short: Tetris, FTW!
PS: My house has the perfect feature wall,
Report PermalinkJust begging to be drowned in that cascading block fall!
