Stunning Glass-Top Pool Table Dazzles With Its Design And Pricetag

Forget for a minute the fact that cleaning this Australian-made and designed pool table would be an absolute bitch and just admire its gorgeous industrial styling. Created from the ground up by Adelaide-based Industrial designer Craig Nottage and featuring a glass table topped with a patented transparent surface called Vitrik which mimics traditional felt, the G-1 table is as stunning as a pool table is ever likely to find. Watching sunken balls work their way through the ball return is mesmerising, as you can see in the clip below.

Despite assurances that the G-1 table plays like normal, I still reckon it would take a while to get used to the see-through playing surface. Of course, I’ll never find out myself – the RRP for this slab of magnificence is a cool $39,900. And that’s the starting price – there’s also some room for customisation. The price does include delivery to metro areas and installation, plus an accessory kit of balls, stylish silver cues and a setting triangle though. You can also pick up a glass cue holder for an extra $1,990, which makes complete sense if you’re already dropping $40K on the table. And international customers can also order one, although I’d hate to think what the shipping on that would be…

Still, the glass is toughened to be about 6 times stronger than regular class and is 15mm thick, so that in itself can’t be cheap. And for the glory of owning one of the world’s only glass-topped pool tables, surely any price is worth it?

I saw the early proto’s for it… its more than just a glass top, there is also a special skin over it to the billiard balls wont fly off, and so much work and heaps of other things gone behind it.

I played on it, great game… Lost in a record time.

Pretty awesome, but c’mon buy some nicer looking balls to go on it. You can get some beautiful semi translucent balls (with no numbers, but who needs them) which would look a hell of a lot better and compliment the table more.

This table is something I have never seen before. Crazy design. I found a bit more information and a few more pictures of it on another site. Check it out.

So… I’m thinking IKEA glass table top $149, legs $100 (both of which I already have). Plus wood with a notch carved down the length of it, with gaps for the pockets, all held on with a latch to close tight at one corner = glass pool table, also serving as my desk. :)
    Thanks for the idea!
