Unlock BlackBerry 8000-9000 Series Phones For Free
Posted by Jason Chen at 6:20 AM on December 4, 2008
IntoMobile just found an app that can unlock any BlackBerry 8000 or 9000 series device, free of charge. What's the catch?
Well, it's only semi-legal. You'd better download these files fast before they're taken down (they'll most likely pop up again elsewhere though, with a day or two's delay). The instructions are here, complete with photos of the process. If you want to unlock, hit that up now rather than pay $US30-$US50 to some guy to unlock your phone for you. @Mr_Maze:
So if I get a world edition, I should be able to unlock it? Does this mean blackberry storm for AT&T? Oh now I am getting excited...

Does this work with CDMA BB's?

Sweet jesus, yes. I am getting this now. I just left Rogers, so this is perfect timing so that I will still be able to use my 8310. =3

So if I have a Verizon Blackberry World Edition, does that mean I can throw my TMO sim in there too?

Got a Blackberry Bold that I wanted to unlock and use with T-Mobile. I was going to wait a while to see if AT&T would do it for me, but I'll ask them first, and if they turn me down, I'll be using this! Screw you AT&T..um, if you deny me, otherwise, thank you.

Still can't turn a CDMA to a GSM...But not bad.

@Kocrachon:
Besides the fact the Storm has no Wifi or either of the US 3G bands, you could.

This must be from the same firm that markets Drama-Tel, the ALMOST Illegal Phone Card.

I've got a Blackberry 8830 World Edition that has not been activated on any network ever. It works on both CDMA and GSM. If anyone would like it let me know. BTW it hasn't been used at all, so it's pretty much brand new.

@ecwis: Well the TMO sim might work but only if you're outside of America since the VZW 8830 WE doesn't use the US GSM frequencies.

@Mr_Maze: To my knowledge, CDMA World Edition doesn't use the same frequency bands that T-Mobile and AT&T require.

@ralphwiggum1: You can call att customer service and get your phone unlocked. Tell them you are going to be travelling overseas for a while and already bought a pre-paid SIM card for an international carrier. Say that you don't want to buy a new phone just to use for a short period of time while your overseas and want to use your bold. They should unlock your phone then.

Any Idea if this can be used to free up the GPS on a Verizon 8330?

@AraKarpo: @AraKarpo: Just a FYI for people. There are two phones AT&T will not unlock.. those phones are the iPhone and the Blackberry Bold. I think they said they couldn't do it because of the fact they're assholes or something.
