The Blackberry Storm Screen Takes on a Knife
Posted by Mark Wilson at 11:13 PM on December 4, 2008
Yes, my friends, the Blackberry Storm screen may be the hardest material on Earth.
I enjoyed watching some guy take his pocket knife to the Blackberry Storm screen with nary a scratch, but things only get better as our host frantically searches around the room for a sharp enough implement to upstage his first trick. [via Engadget]

I took a Ginsu knife to mine and it didn't do anything. So very weird! Must be some sort of special crystaline or diamond type of surface. If you angle the phone you'll see some weird dots with the phone is powered off. I wonder what this has to do resisting scratches.

Seriously, get to the point already. Nobody cares about you being happy people watched your other video.
I can't really tell anything about it's resistance to scratching because everything is out of focus the whole time. He needs to post some macro still photos.

you know, i was in verizon yesterday, and they had one on display. I thought the apps were all very slow to launch, things were very slow to respond in general. I don't know if it was the particular phone I was using or not, but I am sticking with my LG Dare.

@Dafrety: I've tried it out....A friend of mine rocks one....Now, after getting it, he repeatedly uses it and says "The iPhone suuuuuuuuuuccccccccckkkkkkkkkssssss..." (completely unsolicited or provoked by me) with a face wreaking with jealousy. So yes Dafrety, I can concur that that phone is a major fail. lol. These days, I just keep my iPhone away from him.....I'm not a fan of upstaging people who choose to buy crap.

can someone do a drop test for the storm?

Posted 5:07 AM 5/12/08
I don't know if scratch resistance is worth the increased likelihood of the screen shattering when it gets dropped. The glass is made harder at the expense of flexibility, which is what prevents most phones' screens from breaking when they get dropped. My phone's screen now scratches somewhat, but I've dropped it enough times that I'm thankful it didn't break!

Just look at the displays at your Tmobile store.. I bet they're scratched.. from taggers at least in LA anyways.. There's graffetti scratched in gas pump, atm lcds.. wonder how the storm would hold up to that... all in all.. thats pretty nice.. nothing ruins a phone more than a scratched screen

@geedots: Thats good to hear.
And to all you others, The Dare is a nice phone, granted more apps would be nice, and none restrictive VZW policies, but hey, I am happy with my phone. If you don't like the dare and you've tried it, fine by me. But if you are going on what you've heard, then that is "major fail".

OK, so if your Storm doesn't do something and you hate it for that lack of functionality you do what? Try to kill it with a knife but wait... It doesn't fucking die either?! Does it do anything properly?
