the receivers in adelaide (ferrier and hodgeson) told consumer affairs, who said on radio that any gift vouchers purchased after december 16 will be honoured by the receiver

This sucks - I got a six-disc boxset from them for Christmas. One of the discs is faulty and they won't send me another one. They make no mention of their predicament on their website - according to FAQs their returns policy is the same as normal. Complete dishonesty - there were two other boxsets I wanted to buy, but EZY DVD won't be getting my money now.

My brother bought my partner an ezydvd gift voucher for Christmas on the 18th December (apparently after they knew they were in receivership) and yep, they won't honour it. Funnily enough they were more than willing to sell me a voucher for any value I liked yesterday (Jan 6th) when I happened to go in and inquire into whether they sell gift vouchers, which the Office of Fair Trading was very interested to hear about.

The other problem - while they appear to still be trading they are selling but not taking back returns. Once again not fair for the little people.

Also why dont they have to post anything on their website about their "situation".

I found an excellent new site called www.classicdvd.com.au.
They are competitive and offer as good a selection of titles.
Try them out-you will be pleasantly surprised.

Jeb mate, fittings cost a fortune plain or otherwise :) Ezydvd cut their own throats. They strangled margins and drove many franchise owner broke or took over their stores at zero cost.
Zarvos sold 50% of his company to Brazen (Sanity/Virgin) around 4-5 years ago and they obviously saw the writing on the wall, because they sold it back to him a couple of years later.

Zavos tried to build an empire too quickly and it failed. The staff turnover in head office was huge. He worked everyone into the ground, and had his family and friends working in positions that they had no experience in, because no-one in the industry would work there.

No wonder they are in this position!

BTW, I found out today, anyone with gift vouchers - they are not being honored!

Yeah, I agree with DDSF. Their retail stores look so bland, sparse and unappealing, I wouldn't be surprised if the retail side of things is causing them to go under. You can make a store like this appealing without investing too much into fittings, just look at JB...
