I'm sure it's referred to as "the gorilla ad", not "the Cadbury ad", meaning that the ad agency is getting the benefit and praise.

Award shows for commercials are meaningless. I'm basing this on the fact that the award show isn't aired and we air the Country Music Awards and the Daytime Emmys. That's how little awards for commercials mean.

Remember the iPod dancers? Of course you do. It showed the product. You knew what it was advertising. Same goes for the current iPod/iPhone ads. Same goes for car commercials. If people are going to buy something, they need to see it.

BTW: Stateside, Cadbury's only sells around Easter and it's a rabbit that clucks like a chicken that sells it.

Several of the most memorable ads I have in my memory have nothing to do with the product.
Still, I know which company did the advertising, and which product they were trying to sell.

On the other hand, most ads which had a boring spec list are long past forgotten.

Bravia ads for instance. There isn't a single time they mention LCD, TV or any product in the line.
It's still one of the most mentioned ads around, and everytime I talk to someone about LCD TVs, the Bravia line is quoted along with the ads.

I think you are greatly understating the power of surprize and creativity on your comment.
Some of these commercials might not be remembered by the brand name, but since the ad will be recommended for lots of people to watch, the product will be advertised much more than if it was a spec sheet that no one knows about.

A spec sheet or info on the product nowadays is found easily on the internet or something.

Also, in the gorilla ad's case, I seriously think that the ad is better than just another boring ad with milky fake chocolate splashes that we are all sick and tired of watching.

Funny you quoted iPod ads... because it's pretty much the same. Despite showing a little bit more of the product, it doesn't say much about it. Or should I say, it says nothing about it.

It's the idea they are selling. It's left to the consumer to taste the product and judge it for themselves.

A Spec ad is a pitch though, and this particular one is a pitch that failed. White rural and suburban folks that speak with a southern or rural drawl had access to schools that taught them how to speak properly as a child. Many poorer, urban schools like many of the More Blacks that you hate to see, aren't staffed by people who speak properly themselves. Don't damn the Blacks for talking Wrong, damn us all for not adequately addressing the needs of lower income communities.
