Yobo FC3 Plus Plays NES, SNES and Genesis Cartridges
Posted by Mark Wilson at 1:15 AM on November 26, 2008
We may take the system for granted now, but your inner 10-year-old is simply amazed by the Yobo FC3 Plus. A console that's fully compatible with NES, SNES and Sega Genesis titles, you can finally put those old cartridges to use without filling your home theatre setup with unsustainable levels of boxes and wires. Including an NES-compatible light gun and two controllers, the FC3 Plus is a smart eBay purchase for the time being, going for about $US50 from various independent retailers. Read on for a full unboxing.
The controllers look only tolerable and they use proprietary connectors (so no plugging in your own), but that lightgun appears to be a fantastic recreation of the original. [eBay via Unplggd and Videogame Central]

why dont they just make it with a SD card reader so you can play ROM's straight from there?

Does the light gun work with a modern TV? Or is it CRT only?

@Mr.SithNinja: No joke. It's getting to the point where Giz ought to consider the "nuclear option"--purging the commenter rolls and starting anew. The excess of worthless comments as of late makes it very hard to enjoy the comments section at all.
And yes, I see the irony in making a worthless comment complaining about too many worthless comments.

@nutbastard: I thought they were supposed to start dis-emvowling those comments. It's getting to be as bad as "FIRST!" comments.

Classics Owns, but the price of a cartridge...its just too expensive and it tought to find a good game in good conditions these days.
I'll continue to emulate my classics.

I'd be careful about qualifying "compatibility" with "full".
Most clone consoles usually have a few cartridges that won't work with them, or they sound a little off musically, or they don't produce accurate colors, or they produce more jagged images than the originals.
Out of the ones around, I like the Messiah Entertainment "Generation NEX" for NES games because it was compatibile with original NES accessories like the 4-Score and Satellite.

@mrtallbones: Make sure to write your name on them, just in case you lend it to someone.

I'd rather just display the games and consoles, and use an emulator. And yes, My Emulator plays crysis quite fine on the High (not Very High) settings.

Boo to their proprietary connectors. I'd rather just dig out the old NES and SNES, though I may just start keeping roms on my laptop for the plane.

I guess this thing doesn't really make sense to me. If you want a device that actually plays the cartridges, then you probably want those actual consoles sitting out, as nostalgic decoration. If you just want something that plays the games, just build a HTPC and get ROMs, or the Wii with the Virtual Console.

While it is a fun idea, I simply could not believe someone stashing up on cartridges AGAIN, yes, surely useful if you have the carts, and a dead console, not so much so if you need to start over.

Brilliant!
Now I can delete all the emulators and roms I have and start keeping track of cartridges again!

@Killtodie:
Man, that's so obnoxious! No, it will not run Crysis. But it will run Chrono Trigger, Super Metroid, The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, Secret of Mana, etc, etc.

@fuddbutter: Now that's a great idea! Something with a small footprint that I can load my (legally obtained roms that I ripped from my own carts) and load up and go.
Someone needs to make this happen. And they need to make it happen for around 50 bucks.

@Killtodie: I'm amazed at the level of obnoxiousness in the responses to this post. "Worthless comments?" Who decides which opinions or comments are worth keeping? I agree that there are some ignorant comments on any site (YouTube comes to mind), but I'd rather there be ignorant comments than censorship.
And I have to defend grammar Nazis; it is NOT difficult to properly utilize the English language. Anyone who is a native English speaker and has gone through elementary school should be able to compose a decent sentence. If you cannot, you should be prepared to accept a little ridicule.
