Why is Family Guy Playing Above CNN's Magic Wall on Election Night?
Posted by Gizmodo US Edition at 1:15 PM on November 5, 2008
If you are like most Americans tonight, you are probably tuned in to CNN, analysing everything you see—even those television screens about the Magic Wall. And if you're looking over the wall, you might catch Family Guy running on screens above all that red and blue. It wouldn't be the first time we'd catch these guys goofing off during politics. I wonder if this episode is the one that Peter becomes the president his own nation? If so, it's certainly fitting. [Thanks Joe!]

probably comedy central- to monitor what the Daily Show and Colbert come up with- they were running small interruptions through the regular shows.

My guess is they had those tuned to multiple Turner stations. Family guy comes on at 11:00 on Adult Swim.

To be honest, we were watching Family Guy.
It was either watch something interesting or watch McCain get straight dominated in the worst election I have witnessed.

cartoon network (adult swim) is owned by ted turner, cnn is owned by ted turner. end of story.
i'm sure if you looked closely you'd probably see a commercial for FrankTV on TBS.

@Unknown2U: That's the most likely situation. After all, the major networks watch each other to make sure they're not missing something they should be reporting on, as well. This is probably just a commercial playing on Fox.
While I was watching the DirecTV Election Mix channel (in HD, natch), I noticed a number of Family Guy commercials playing on Fox. They, along with the other networks, also had commercials for upcoming movies. It was very strange to see how close together those ads were played across the networks.

I noticed this too, even posted a 12seconds about it. Between this and the Spongebob thing a while back, I think CNN is just crazy.

@ttech10: Yeah, despite your political stance during the last 2 elections at least they were entertaining. This one was over at 10pm central or 7pm if you actually had a brain. So I went to the driving range and the gym, time well spent.

The same reason TVs in the back of regular news broadcasts show other channels. The same reason they used to have clocks that show the time of day in other parts of the world.
It's something that happens. It's not a weird thing, it's not catching CNN in the act. It's normal.

Family Guy airs on TBS, a TimeWarner/Turner Station, which in turn owns CNN. Though its weird during the election, it's not unusual for sister stations to put their programing on in the background and cross promote each other.
