What if The Matrix Ran on Windows?
Posted by Adam Frucci at 1:20 AM on November 11, 2008
The crew at CollegeHumor have outdone themselves with their latest short, The Matrix Runs on Windows. The concept is pretty self-explanatory: the movie The Matrix if the construct was run on Windows XP. It's incredible that content shot for the web is reaching the quality of the movies that it spoofs. Seriously, how good does this look? [CollegeHumor]

@scarbrtj: Actually, the real movie is pretty accurate for that. Lots of people using it (the Matrix) and all but a very small fraction of a percent know what is going on. It generally runs okay and looks pretty, which keeps most people happy, but it is still pretty easy for a hacker (Neo) to bypass security (Agents) and crash it.

OK, now I want to see The Matrix run on Mac OS.
It'll probably have zero problems, and everyone will be so happy no one wants to leave. And everyone will wear black turtlenecks.

Quality is amazing for sure... but... really, I didn't laugh once this clip. A smirk at kung-fu trial expired... but... meh.
However yea, I've been amazed with some web clips recently too, and this IS a good example of that. Its hard to tell sometimes, this looks better than some stuff you'd see on tv. Although, I think that says more about crap tv...

Jobs as the architect?
The first matrix I designed was quite naturally perfect. Completely, vertically integrated, ran only on hardware of my own design. It was quite naturally perfect, flawless, sublime. A triumph equaled only by its monumental failure. The inevitability of its doom is as apparent to me now as a consequence of the imperfection inherent in every human being, thus I redesigned it based on your own hardware, to more accurately reflect the varying grotesqueries of your inferior products. I was again, frustrated by failure. I have since come to understand that the answer eluded me because it required a lesser mind, or perhaps a mind less bound by the parameters of perfection. Thus, the answer was stumbled upon by another, an intuitive program, initially created to investigate reality distortion technologies, which I then employed to mask the most apparent flaws in the system. If I am the father of the Matrix, HE, would undoubtedly be its mother.

Well done, but the message rings hollow and a bit dated to me.
XP might be "boring" but you don't hear about much of the stuff they're lampooning happening anymore.
A couple of years a go it would have hit harder I think.
Still the video is extremely well done.
I agree that these folks are doing better and better technically with each project they do.

Actually, it's pretty good, but I've always thought of this the other way around:
The REAL world in the Matrix movie, is natural & unkempt - it's not perfect, in fact it can be dangerous. Here though, is where you have free will (to run hundreds of applications and peripherals - not all of which are color-coordinated).
The Matrix has everyone suspended in "Pods" believing that their shiny white world is safe and perfect. It dictates to you what a perfect world is though, and if you try to exert your own choices within this "perfect reality", Agents (Apple Lawyers) come after you.
