Wall-E on Blu-Ray Arrives November 18th
Posted by Gizmodo US Edition at 4:00 AM on November 2, 2008
WALL-E is set to land on Blu-Ray (and DVD) on November 18th, and will probably become the go-to showoff movie for high-end entertainment systems. The newest Pixar movie is a big favourite here at Gizmodo, and the 3-disc set looks like a must-have for Blu-Ray owners, with all kinds of great extras. More details after the jump.
AU: I should point out, with great regret, that the Aussie Blu-ray release for Wall-E definitely won't be on November 18, seeing as how it's still out at the cinemas. Still, this is what you may or may not have to look forward to when it does hit Blu-ray.
It'll be available in a two- or three-disc set on Blu-Ray, and feature a new short film called BURN-E, as well as Presto, the short that ran alongside the film in theatres. The sets also have a documentary on the studio called The Pixar Story, a "retro suite of video games," and of course the standards like commentary and a behind-the-scenes look. The double and triple-disc sets will run for $US36 and $US41, respectively, and there will be single, double, and triple-disk DVD sets as well. [Official Site]

@Palmer74: Yeah that's not a bad idea. It's just very expensive unless you know someone in the framing bussiness. Good for you.

@schpeen:
I have always done the same thing, but now I have a little girl in my life and my best friend owns a frame shop in the mall so I think I will do some thing with these.

@Palmer74: I will take the cheaper price. I always get those lithographs and never do anything with them except file them away in a box.

Considering the majority of blu-ray players are PS3, I'm hoping those games are ps3 specific. It would make it far more interesting than some sort of throwaway dvd-style game.

Hasn't anyone pointed out that the cover is not only spoilerific, but...sorta...fucks up the whole plot? Like, Eve is supposed to be in the ship and that little guy is on the BIG ship and the plant is supposed to be IN Eve...

@frigg: You mean you got the 8-unit family pack, right? Last time I was in Buy N Large they only offered two choices: the 8-unit family pack, or 8 palettes of the 8-unit family pack.

@junkmail: No need to be ashamed. It's the studios constantly trying to one up each other that makes for a better movie experience. Although I love everything Pixar does, if someone else can do something that appeals to the audience in a better way, then it allows Pixar, and all others, to take note and try and utilize that formula on the next go-around. Either way, we, as the audience, win.

Can you name 5 movies to date this year that were better and more critically acclaimed? I can't. @surfer88:

@rip: Don't assume they'll be crappy dvd-style games. Blu-Ray players are actually little computers, and run a form of Java. If Disney actually put some decent effort behind it, they could be cool games using the retro-graphics from the movie's end credits.

@stinkweed: "Better" is an opinion, but this year was filled with critically acclaimed movies. Ones like Dark Knight, Iron Man, Tell No One, Tropic Thunder, Burn After Reading, Kung Fu Panda, Narnia: Prince Caspian, etc. Personally, while I like Wall-E better, I think Dark Knight has a better chance of winning Picture of the Year.

@stinkweed: I'm pretty sure what he means is that animated pictures don't often win these sorts of awards. The only other real contender, I think, is The Dark Knight to win Best Picture, but it seems that there's an awful stigma against animated movies so that they can win best Animated Picture, but Best Picture is a bit out of reach most of the time.

Harmonica waits for sundown and cornflakes

@Kaiser-Machead's Cookie-Powered LEGO Machine: I think the Academy made 'Best Animted Film' category so animated films would never again win best feature film. Justly so, Beauty and the Beast won best picture in 1992 and everyone was up in arms about that, so they decided to give a new category to 'Best Animted Film'.
I consider this a huge shame as quite a few animted films deserve best picture, Toy Story (1995), Iron Giant (1999) and Spirited Away (2003).
