Verizon's BlackBerry Storm Private Pre-Sale Has No Storms
Posted by Kit Eaton at 9:26 PM on November 18, 2008
Oops. You know that pre-sale flyer that was doing the rounds to Verizon "VIPs", the one with the BlackBerry Storm on the left hand side? Turns out that if you, a VIP, turn up at a store with that very flyer you'll not be able to buy a Storm ahead of its launch. You won't, in fact, be able to touch one to see what it's like. You won't be able to see one. There are none, apparently. All you're able to do is get yourself put on a list for a call from Verizon on Friday so you can pre-order the phone. Okay, the flyer didn't make definite promises...but it's pretty much 100% misleading for Storm fans. Guess everyone has to wait for the real date. [BGR]

Seems like business as usual for Verizon.

Damn, and I got one of these flyers too. I was hoping I would get to check it out before I decided to get one... oh well.. scratch that from my list for now.

Anyone read that post where I compared ditching Verizon for AT&T for the iPhone to breaking up with a girlfriend for a hotter girl? (If not you can read what some called "comment of the year" here.) While to continue that creepy metaphor, this is like that stalker ex doing retarded seemingly self-effacing moves only to have it blow in their face and making you want to stay further away, change your phone number, and finally ends with restraining orders. Oh you silly Verizon Wireless!

Our telecom guy got to play with one from our Verizon rep, and we will have one in house for everyone to play with next week.
BTW, he says the typing works really well. Not quite as fast as the regular BB but way more accurate than the iphone. The 'clicking' seemed natural.
Looking forward to this as our "enterprise ready" iphones are anything but.

@transzoo: I remember that comment, it was one of the best things I'd ever read :) ... and this just adds to it :)

I still can't get corporate pricing from my rep. Of course, he had no problem taking the pre-order paperwork on close to 30 of them...

SO....off topic here, but I went into my mother's office in the late 90's and she had a very large copy-center multi function document device...(o.k. copier) It had a touch screen; which while cool in the 90's, was not unheard of, seeing as it was that weird blue monochrome. But the thing that I remember was that the screen CLICKED. At the time it seemed like just a cheap ass way to make an accurate touch screen but it made for a very visceral experience. It was just a grid of hundreds of tiny buttons under the screen and when you pushed any of the buttons that was within the onscreen button it would activate. So the storm doesn't have all those buttons but rather has one giant one and a regular touch screen but it's weird to see them tout it as new shit.

I fell for it, too. Showed up at my Verizon store yesterday morning and was told the same thing. The rep said that the demand was great and that she'd started a list to call people on Friday as she expects long lines and the phone to sell out early. After I left and thought about my wasted trip, I called the phone number printed on the card and was told that there was a mix up with the marketing team and that the invite went to press before the drop date changed. She then touted how other phones were available - albeit one's that have been out for some time. I suggested that Verizon consider extending the 'exclusive' offer for another week to "VIP's" and hold off on general release. She laughed. I hung up.
