TiVo Hitting David Jones Shelves November 10

Australian Post Posted by Nick Broughall at 9:30 AM on November 6, 2008

If you've wanted to get your hands on some TiVo action but don't live anywhere near a Harvey Norman, Domayne, JB HiFi, Clive Anthony's or Dick Smith Electronics store, there may be another option for you come November 10 (but don't hold your breath).

David Jones is joining the rapidly expanding list of retailers stocking the "digital media device" on their shelves. And while the TiVo itself is becoming more and more appealing, does anybody really buy their consumer electronics from DJs? If so, why? From my experience, everything they sell is stuck at RRP with no room for negotiation.

In any case, more retailers is a good thing for TiVo, if not potential customers.

"...does anybody really buy their consumer electronics from DJs? If so, why?"

Ever heard of a little thing called interest-free repayments, Nick?

@Steve – I have... I just bought my 50-inch TV over 50 months interest free at Harvey Norman. And I was able to negotiate a little bit there as well.

Actually, they do sometimes budge on prices, and also price match if you have a catalogue from wherever is cheaper. They're no worse than anywhere else.

They also price match everyone, along with the int. free deals etc.

They match any advertised price (it's their written policy) and the stores are generally cleaner, with friendlier staff and less hobos.

Actually, DJ is selling the upcomming Guitar Hero World Tour for the low price Target offered for a while... $279. Which is whack, coz its not selling it at RRP!

The price matching is the key - not to mention having things in stock. Another thing is the fact they have no idea what they're selling sometimes. Got a Core 2 Duo Macbook from them for $1199 when it was $1499 every where else. They had 11 of them. No idea.

I buy all my whitegoods and browngoods from DJs when I can. They don't have the largest range, but if they do have the product you need, shop around for the best price, then go to DJs and they'll match it. Their service is almost always excellent, and their delivery service when required is probably the best in the industry (at least for whitegoods). They also have a very good additional warranty program which is like an insurance policy.
