Sweater Dryer or 8-Pack Alien Colonic?
Posted by Mark Wilson at 12:00 AM on November 5, 2008
The clothing in the shot gives it away, but if we were to see the Sweater Dryer with Fan in another context, we might think it a...well we don't really know what we'd think it was. Heck, even in this shot, we assume the device is blowing air at that sweater. For all we know, the Sweater Dryer with Fan (with an out of this world promise to dry clothing 75% faster than hanging) is really imbuing the garment with a latent forcefield, waiting for the day it's activated by green invaders who will freeze us alive in our J Crew sale items. @monkeyrotica: Yeah, it could be an octopus tentacle drier!
(I'd originally thought of a tentacle enhancer/pump, but we already knew that it blows)

Sweater Dryer or 8-Pack Alien Colonic?
Why does it have to be one or the other?

Wow, with that, me and seven friends could enjoy some fine tobacco related products.

That's actually a nifty set-up, provided you've got space enough.

If it were chrome, I could imagine it sticking out of a hot rod's hood.

I actually use a sweater rack, though mine has no fan. The air is usually pretty dry in winter anyway (sweater weather) or I can place it near a heating vent if I am in a hurry. All my fuzzy angora remains fuzzy and warm, no dry cleaning needed.

Is this what it was actually designed for? You would get better results by hanging the garment up and directing a fan at it.
I reckon it was designed for drying cannabis as a very similar net/tray assembly is already available for drying fresh bud. It's common for cannabis related products to be marketed as a product with a different (and legal) use.

@fluxlasers: No, no, dont hang it, it stretches and gets hanger marks in it. You dont want to lose the shape of the garment.

@fluxlasers: It would blow away. Now if you adapted Alton Browns suggestion of using simple furnace air filters bungeed to a box fan, you could dry all of your herbs for cooking.

Is this actually a real problem that people needed a solution for?
If so, I'm in the wrong business...

@rshettle: Yes. Sweaters, especially those made of wool, require hand-washing and drying flat on a rack (no, not the bewb kind). The problem with drying flat is that there is no way to get any air circulation underneath (unless it's made of mesh like the pic above), so it never dries. I've resorted to hang drying, which tends to distort and stretch out sweaters, but does the drying job better.
