Star Trek Tribble Replica Wriggles and Coos, Won't Over-Run Your Home
Posted by Kit Eaton at 8:12 PM on November 7, 2008
A six-inch furry toy that vibrates and makes the genuine cooing sounds of the Tribbles from Star Trek... probably something to not buy if you've got predatory cats around the place. You never know though, since these electronic replicas have a "Klingon mode" where they get truly battle-agitated, and that might put the wind up Ginger. Due for shipping in early 2009, they'll cost around $US28 and luckily have no in-built self-replication mode. [Product via OhGizmo]

I've already got too many furry things running around the apartment. Can I interest anyone in a cat?

I have a tribble right here next to me, although its the older version that doesn't wriggle around.... and the battery is not replaceable either..

When I was in vegas, the Hilton had/has a Star Trek experience with Quarks bar, etc. The gift shop had massive amounts of these things in those wire baskets. I can not tell you how much fun it was to push down on 60 or 70 of these things in a basket, and have them all start cooing and wriggling around.

Back in '97 I remember a publicity stunt (during rush hour no less) where they had them all over a NYC Subway station.

I would think this would be perfect for a cat. I am not sure if they would play with it or cower in fear, but either way, I smell some good video.

ThinkGeek have been selling tribbles for a while, they give shrieks of alarm rather than cooing though.

I used to have a long-haired guinea pig that looked a lot like a tribble. I'd rather it'd have been a real tribble.

I bought one of these at The Star Trek Experience in Vegas while it was still open, it was like 15 bucks but didn't have an "Agitate" mode, just got startled and shook when people were nearby.

Priest: And Scotty beamed them to the Klingon ship where they would be no Tribble at all.
Congregation: All power to the engines.

@Curves: If our cats are any indicators they would ignore it and play with the packaging materials instead...

So THIS is what that application on the G1 is supposed to be. It was so random and weird but this... Tribble puts things into perspective.
