Yes there is glare, but it is easy to work around this by holding the device at roughly a 45 degree angle, about the angle I normally hold a paper book. Everything about reading a non-paper book is very subjective. Screen resolution, glare, speed of page changes, weight of the device, color of the surround, you name it, somebody has a negative opinion about it. Nevertheless, as is usual with any electronics, it pays to discount the nit-pickers and see one for yourself, then decide. Sony makes this easy since they are in Sony Style stores, Borders Books Stores and Target Stores in the US and Canada.

Yeah, there is a glare issue... consider it an early-adopter tax.
So far, I haven't encountered a setting where I couldn't adjust for the glare by holding the reader at a different angle.
The touchscreen is not necessarily a practical feature, but does contribute to the sensation of reading a real book.
