Do NOT buy the Sony X1 if you are using an Apple Mac as there is no connectivity – by cable or Bluetooth – between a Mac and this phone. It only works with a Windows based PC

I spoke with a Telstra shop yesterday, what’s happening is Telstra is exclusively getting the X1a (being the American version of the handset, at least if the lettering is to be believed) of which will be the only version that will be able to use the "Next G" network.

Telstra is launching the phone in Australia on the 8th of December. The only concern I’d have about the X1a is apparently in America the X1 breached a patient of some kind, specifically with the video recording. Long story short the X1a in the US has been limited to 320x240 @ 24fps.

Telstra was unable to confirm if these limitations from the American version would be present in the X1a handset in Australia. Keep in mind that what I assume will be the X1i (which will be released on the other carriers in Australia) won’t have this video recording limitation if it does end up being present in the X1a on Telstra

I just spoke to Sonyericsson Australia. They stated they will NOT be doing an exclusive launch with a single carrier (thusly not limiting the phones availability). So I’d see this as Telstra saying they will be carrying the phone.

it should be available on a plan… in the fone selection dropdown in the telstra system (seibel) the sony x1 is an option

I think I'd be sticking to the HTC Touch Pro or iPhone for that sort of cash.
