Sony DR-BT160AS Bluetooth Headphones: Buyable Now for $US130
Posted by Mark Wilson at 1:45 AM on November 19, 2008
The Sony DR-BT160AS Bluetooth Active Style Headphones popped up on Giz a few months back, and they looked promising if a bit odd, streaming stereo A2DP audio while packing a rechargeable lithium ion battery and a microphone for calls. But we had no pricing or availability information. Now, through the magic of press releases, we know that the headphones are available now for "approximately $US130." That's not the most reassuring pricing announcement we've ever seen, but we'll take what we can get. [Sony]

@EVEs_Mako: I'd love to have an iPhone, but yes - leaving out stereo bluetooth support was a massive failure on apple's part...

@OtisCabeal: Its the iPhone itself that makes it not compatable to listening to music on bluetooth headphones. The iPhone doesn't support that profile.
You'll have to wait for a new iPhone or use of the dongle type systems if thats what you're looking for.

the iphone doesn't have A2DP support. If you want to use them for music you'll need to get a bluetooth adapter with A2DP support and put it in the headphone jack.

Will they be compatable with an iphone (not just as a bluetooth headset but for listening to music as well)

@LittleJon: Yet, in the RDF the iPhone is the "best iPod ever".

@EVEs_Mako: Much as I hate Sony, I have to defend them by pointing out that the fault is Apple's. It didn't seem to occur to them that people might want to listen to music on the iPhone using wireless headphones!
There seems to be a reasonable market for stereo bluetooth headphones, so these won't fail just because we iPhone owners have been shafted by Apple. They just won't do as well as they could have done had Apple not been retarded!

Hm, what's with the AAA batteries hanging off the front. I don't think I'd be caught dead wearing those things...

For all those idiot whinging about them not being iphone compatible! it's the iphone for being so retarded and not supporting the headphones.
It is not Apple's fault nobody ever makes the perfect phone on there second attempt, hell nokia can't make the perfect phone after err a shitload of years.
Give me Iphone version 4 it will be there peak before they blow it on iphone 5.

I own both the Motorola S9's and the Sony Ericcson HBH-980's. The 980's have a "lanyard" and a "Pendant" and they work perfectly with my HTC Touch Pro, as they did with my previous HTC Mogul.
The Motorola S9's are very uncomfortable, and look worse than the HBH-980's, which look just like regular ear bud headphones.
I would be hard-pressed to replace my HBH-980's with these new ones.

this are ugly. the best bluetooth headphones are still the motorola s9's (one of the few things motorola got right). a2dp is just one more reason why i'll never have an apple music player. apple can't seem to get with flash and stereo bluetooth. they just don't care about their customers.

@whootowl: I'm not defending the "best iPod ever" statement, but what does A2DP have to do with it? Did the iPhone lose some A2DP functionality that iPods had?

@chrism123: i like that the s9's do not have any wires or 'lanyard' and 'pendant' as you put it. i love the full wireless for commuting on the bus or the LRV.
my only problem with them is that the ear cups keep coming off (and it was a 8itch to get replacments from moto).

@chrism123: Motorola S9 suck Too!!!! they are uncomfortable, can barely move your head without the buds falling out and the volume sucks!!! I have yet to find a decent set of BT headphones, maybe the HBH-980's....we'll see ;-)
And yes all, Apple needs to add BT A2DP support for this to work, or you'll need a BT adapter to plug into the bottom of the iPhone and then pair them up, but Apple didn't give us A2DP (something that almost every other decent "SmartPhone" has. So we wait. I don't think there are any aftermarket solutions yet, correct me if I'm wrong. I sold my iPhone 3G because of this, really missed it in the car, handsfree music, movies and phone all through car deck, not giving that up, no way.

I wouldn't want these batteries exploding a few centimeters from my brain.
