Sesame Street Coming to Hulu, YouTube and iTunes
Posted by Adam Frucci at 8:00 AM on November 11, 2008
Sesame Street, the wonderful children's show that basically everybody grew up on, is coming to the web. Soon, you'll be able to access full episodes from season 35 of the show on iTunes, with about 100 clips coming to both Hulu and YouTube. I'm hoping there will be a nice combo of new stuff for today's kids with retro clips for big kids like me to relive my childhood. Big Bird! Snuffy! Oscar the Grouch! You're never too old for Sesame Street. [Reuters]

@jkr's bold comment: I guess Sirius Satellite radio is evil too. I dont understand how they are evil, they dont make you buy their stuff and at least we have options. If you like commercials watch Hulu if you dont want it then pay $1.

@jkr's bold comment: So, it's evil that they will charge you $1 per episode for no commercials, but free with commercials elsewhere? For some, simply not having commercials is worth it. I HATE commercials. Just this weekend I grew so tired of commercials that I turned Pandora on, paid $36 for a yearly subscription, and listened to streaming audio all weekend with no commercials at all.

Am I the only one that thinks iTunes is evil. It's evil in that a show that you can watch for free, will charge you a buck per ep. That's $24 a season. Hulu and such are great, a few commercials, and you get the ep for free. I will be very happy when the iTunes video business model fails. The fact that it was ever put forth was dangerous IMO.

you know what I think I want to watch? The Muppet Show. totally missed out on that. The Swedish Chef, oh and Statler and Waldorf had nothing but gems, especially in the Muppet Christmas Carol. That is in fact what I compare all other Christmas Carols to.

YouTube is no surprise as pretty much every Sesame Street clip ever is on there.

Sweet! I dressed up as a Yip Yip Alien for halloween. Too bad only people above the age of 28 knew wtf the costume was.

@Lite: iTunes came at a time where there was no legal online alternative. Cable and satellite, you pay for the broadcast, not the content. The commercials pay for the content. I didn't say it was evil to pay for internet access, which is akin to paying a cable bill. The fact of the matter, is that iTunes is a very different business model than cable. Hulu is the same business model as cable. It's too bad that some here didn't see the actual comparison I was making. In addition, perhaps some took "evil" in to literal a fashion. I meant it in a money grubbing way. Basically it was a spear head attempt to get media consumers to pay more for the media than what they are currently paying.

@pdditty: Or cable companies! What about them! Or, satellite TV, or... How about that conspiracy to make you buy more hardware for the 'digital conversion' coming up? Eeeeevil. I blame Dr. Evil.

@pdditty: Think Muppets for adults in broadway format. Featuring such hit songs as "The Internet is for Porn" and "Everyone's a Little Bit Racist Sometimes"...
Youtube should have a few clips.

@jkr's bold comment: The difference between Hulu and iTunes is that you do not have to rely on streaming for iTunes. You download content once, and can use it on up to 5 machines.
So, you're not required to have an internet connection to watch. Just to initially authorize your machine. iTunes is the digital equivilent of going to a store and buying a TV show in DVD. Nothing more, nothing less. DVD, like iTunes, is a licensed, controlled, proprietary format.
Just because they were first to market, doesn't mean they're evil. Now that there are other formats, does that continue to make them evil? What if I want to be able to pay to not have commercial breaks, is that bad?
What you're saying isn't that iTunes is evil, it's that you do not value their service enough to be ok with paying for it. That other services that require you to sit through marketing (and let's face it, you can make more money, but not more time) instead are more worth your while.

@B.Zanetti: They've got at least the first few seasons out on DVD. It's awesome seeing those earlier versions of all their guest artists! :-)
You know, there's not really an equivalent show these days, that's safe to watch with your toddlers, and is entertaining for both adults and kids.

What about Sirius? I kinda understand what you're saying but since customers have choices its kinda of a moot point.
