Ruh-Roh: BlackBerry Storm Hit by Delays
Posted by Matt Buchanan at 12:11 AM on November 7, 2008
Man, this is scarily familiar territory for RIM. Multiple reports say that BlackBerry Storm release date is slipping. Sources tell RBC Capital Markets analyst Mike Abramsky that the Storm is still undergoing certification at Verizon, pushing its launch back to late this month—or even later. Notably, Verizon hasn't announced a date yet, even though we're already a week into November.
While there's no reason (yet) to think the delay will be nearly as egregious as the Bold, Boy Genius points out that Vodafone has already gently nudged its Nov. 14 date back to the 18th for pre-orders, and their forums are lit up with whispers of a delay. These aren't new rumours either. If at all possible, Verizon will launch the Storm by Black Friday, and we think there's a good chance they will. Just don't expect it too long before then. Throw us a curveball and use the time to add wi-fi, even though the specs are already out on verizonwireless.com/storm
I still plan to buy it without the wi-fi anyway. You got me Verizon, considering my LG 8600's paint has been chipping since month two, the camera is broken and the red touch buttons on the cover for Get It Now or whatever stay on, draining my battery.

Verizon, are you serious? I've been a loyal Verizon customer for years, and it'd be great to see a decent phone for once. Touting your network as superior is great, but it'd be great if I could enjoy using that network on a decent phone.
It seems as though the mentality is that they have enough customers, why try to get more? Example would be the Storm rumored (here on Gizmodo) to cost 500 without a contrat. Does this phone really cost more than a PS3 to produce?

Verizon really needs to get it together their current smartphone offers are pathethic compared to at&t's iphone and soon to be released bold. I am a long time customer but I haven't been impressed with their phone lineup at all and the only phone I hold out hope for is the storm.

Who-da-thunk removing a keyboard would be so difficult?
Take all the time you need, RIM. As Apple keeps proving, it is all about the interface, and there are more than a couple of us that have our doubts you can pull this off.

The Blackberry Storm appears to be starting as well out of the gate as the Oklahoma City Thunder.
This does not bode well for my new company: Very Very Overcast Day with a 90% Chance of Heavy Rain.

Grr, I hate delays. These companies need to stop coming up with unrealistic release dates if they know there is a chance for it to be pushed back.

i love how everyone on here is bashing verizon for the fact that the storm as supposedly been delayed which what all you people don't understand is that i could create a website and say hey here is the official storm release date and when that day comes and goes OH SHIT STORM HIT BY DELAYS vzw hasn't even considered having a release date unlike AT&ts bold that has had almost 4 delays but not because of rim but because of the fact that their network would completely crash from the sheer number of data users at&t still lags in the past on data thats why they use verizon aircards for the rural area stores (ps not a bitter verizon user i love the i phone had it for a while it was great except for the fact that i need a phone not a cool paper weight slash mp3 player)

How can something that's never been given an official release date be delayed?

As frustrating as it may be, the delays of the Bold releasing in the US are the very reason Verizon has never given a release date. I am the BB admin for my company and our Verizon sales reps will never say more than the Storm will be here before the holidays. They almost seem frustrated whenever I ask about it. But in the end RIM has always been about perfection. Now that they are competing directly with the iPhone, RIM and Verizon are working hard to make sure the Storm is nothing but perfect.

Verizon has the best network/service because their phones are tested and true. Can't blame them for taking their time to ensure they maintain their claim to fame.
