Revamped Sling.com Launches to Spendthrift Public
Posted by Mark Wilson at 2:10 AM on November 27, 2008
Sling.com has been in closed beta for some time, but now the Huluesque service is open to the public. The site includes 60 other content partners including networks like FOX and CBS and studios like MGM and Sony. And while you wouldn't expect to see any NBC content on there, you can actually watch shows like 30 Rock that are badged with a Hulu logo. My first reaction is that Sling's quality leaves something to be desired, but I certainly can't complain about the price. [Sling via AlleyInsider]

You left out the most important feature. If you have a slingbox, and a windows PC for now(mac supposedly in the near future)you can watch your slingbox on the website. Great for visiting a friend.

@acs12798: You visit a friend only to watch your TV shows?

@acs12798: Good point. Now if I could only watch in on my iphone! (was going to get Orb, but I already have a sling box, so I think I'm going to wait)

giving this a try now
while I'd love a mac client, this would be great for quickly throwing a game on a friend's PC while we play Rock Band or something like that.

I just need to get my sling working properly again. It worked great I unplugged it to move it. Then I couldn't connect to it. Reset it up... worked for a day... then didn't work... reset it up... worked for a day... and so on. I'll have to call support.... I'm a failure as a geek ;O(

@acs12798: The web client is great! The PC client frequently crashes my video card...

@sonburn: What you describe is often caused by the router losing the port forwarding rule to the Slingbox. Each time you do the setup it'll recreate the rule, fixing the issue. I'd try turning off UPnP on the router, then *manually* setting a port forwarding rule to the Slingbox LAN IP. (TCP port 5001 by default.)
