Please Insert Drink 5 of 12 to Continue Alcoholism
Posted by Gizmodo US Edition at 11:15 AM on November 4, 2008
This hand-sewn floppy disk coaster set will put you back $US28 for stain-free coffee-table goodness for the neat-freak nerd. Available in five colours, it'll also make you reminisce for the times you sat there for forty minutes, inserting floppy disk after floppy disk to install Microsoft Office 6.0. At least you won't have to worry about those drink stains when you are sitting in front of the televsion Election Night, with your ol' friend Jack Daniels, choosing between celebration or consolation. It's a shame they also don't cure hangovers for a bright and early day at work Wednesday morning! [Etsy via GeekSugar]

@Hiphopopotamus: Real men use punch cards and have them bookended with tape cassettes.

For $28 you can get like 6 cases of actual floppies which make equally functional coasters. Actually... I kinda wanna do that now.

@Hiphopopotamus: The slider tends to rust. I wonder if you have to put drink 1 back in at the end to complete alcoholism.

I have a whole bunch of CDs I got when I was doing tech support for Toshiba... glue some felt on the back of those and you've got the most interesting coaster set around. Love those gold colored pre-release copies of Win95.

Someone should make a discrete, floppy disk flask for the hard liquors.

40 minutes? Windows 95, sitting on about 50 1.4 Mb floppies took nearly 2 hours to install. With a disk change every other minute. Long live the hard drives!

@J. Nadeau:
I definitely remember installing Windows 95 from floppy disks, and you're not far off on how long it took. Sad part is, I already had a CD-ROM drive by then, but I received Windows 95 as a gift from a well meaning family member who didn't know the difference and bought the floppy disk version by accident.

@J. Nadeau: More than that depending on the speed of your computer. I've waited more than 3 hours for it to install completely. And rebooting after always took a lot of time too.

@flamingmenudo: Maybe a flask in the form of an old floppy disk reader?

@Boot Shrew: It's not like any of them are actually functioning by this point anyway!
