NY Times' Pogue-O-Matic Guides Your Gadget Shopping, Sets My Heart Aflutter
Posted by Elaine Chow at 4:30 PM on November 19, 2008
Maybe it's because I have the hugest crush on David Pogue of the New York Times, but I find his recently released product finder guide, the Pogue-O-matic, absolutely adorable... and useful too! The Pogue-O-Matic is divided into four parts: cameras, camcorders, smartphones and televisions. If you were planning on getting people any of the above for the holidays, stop by and have little e-Pogue explain what details you should look out for. Being a gadget blogger with a finger on the pulse of the latest and greatest, I personally don't need the advice. But I'll be stopping by anyway... for you, Pogue. Just. For. You. Check out what happens if you don't click on any of the selections after his first little intro. It goes on way longer than you think, and is quite entertaining.
No I don't have a job, why do you ask?

Nice idea, but I didn't get the selection to work and it's simply NOT that easy to select the best alternative, either...
I should now, because my site - www.vantechmag.com - is consider to have the finest and most accurate Best Buy guide!
And that make me very proud ;-)

Yay for Pogue! Let's watch Mossberg follow suit with the Mosshole-o-matic gadgets-for-people-who-hate-technology... picker.

Cool. I have his recent iPhone: The Missing Manual, and it's quite good.

Elaine, Davide Pogue is clearly gay...i'm not saying that makes you a fag hag or anything. sorry to crush your crush.

@not a sailor boy: Actually, no, he isn't. And, while having a wife and kids--which he does--is in itself no guarantee of "straightness", I've met him and he is definitely not gay. (There were a couple of spurious blips flashing on my gadar screen, but those were just from David being David--relaxed and charming with no need for macho posing.)
He's also quite cute, witty, friendly and smart. All of which, sad to say, only deepens my hopeless crush on him.

The little buyer's guide works if you don't know anything about the product (i.e. camera, smartphone, TV, camcorder) you want to purchase, but I was a little let down by the limited suggestions and product information it gives you. Gimmicky, but not all that useful. Sorry Elaine.

The brand names listed are pretty small -- no Sharp, for example. FAIL.

@not a sailor boy: You're clearly a big fat booger. What do you say to that?
And yes, Pogue is married with children. Alas, our love will never be. I can only stare at him longingly from the other side of the tech reporting world.
