New Watchmen Trailer Censors Out Dr. Manhattan Bits
Posted by Elaine Chow at 3:00 PM on November 14, 2008
There's a new Watchmen trailer and this time around the blurry blue gonads are GONE. That's right, Dr. Manhattan's CG wang has been edited out by true-to-comic hating censors. But don't let half-second flashes (or the lack of them) of superhero man meat let you down, the rest of the trailer contains explosions, arse kicking, and proof that the Silk Spectre can do more than just strut around and kiss people.

Every time they release a new trailer I want to wait THAT much longer to pre-order tickets. Also, I LOVE Take A Bow. I used to hold the casual global high score for it on Audiosurf. Ha ha.
Also, Manhattan did wear clothes in the book when the media or government wanted him too. If the man who controls atoms and molecules wants to be naked, then he gets to be naked.

Looking forward to this movie. I'm just afraid it looks like Dr. Manhattan is more of a superhero and less like a powerful observer - seeing as he maintained his helplessness to do anything in the comic.

@Brogen: I thought about that, but I was being more general about reading comics growing up. There are a few movies that have come out based on graphic novels and comics that I didn't really know anything about and wish I had read before. The trailer for the movie "The Spirit" looks neat too but I've never heard of that. I guess I could go out and buy every graphic novel that comes out as a movie, but I just meant to say it would have been nice to grow up reading this sort of thing. It's never too late to start I suppose.

This movie looks... bad.
I'm assuming the graphics in the trailer are done, if they're willing to release it.
The graphics are terrible, most video games do better.
Rorschach's face is terrible.
Jessica's outfit was changed, and she's supposed to be in her 30's, not 22
Dan looks younger, and his outfit was also changed.
Jon sounds like a smurf, I mean for someone who's supposed to be omnipotent and whatnot, you'd think he wouldn't sound like a little whiny 20 year old.
I don't think this movie will be bad, but to whomever thinks it will be good, read the graphics novel and then when you'll see the movie... you'll realize how badly it was butchered. I mean, heck, the trailer says it doesn't follow the book. "Jon says there will be nuclear war" Jon tells Jessica that, but she doesn't tell anyone else, from what I've heard, the ending has also been changed to be more fan friendly.
I don't know how true that is but *Spoiler* they do show Rorschach's death in the trailer */Spoiler* I mean WTF, why would you put that in the trailer??

@Googlemyname: There is a connection: Rorschach (the narrator in the trailer) is based on a Charlton/DC comics character named the Question. The Question used to hang out with Batman, and actually took over his role as protector of Gotham City for a little while :)

If you want the sound track look for Philip Glass (American Composer). The music that lasted about 70% of the trailer was from a truly revolutionary film made back in 1982 when it was a joke to be an environmentalist. The film was Koyanisqasti which in Hopi Indian chit chat means (life out of balance). I asw it at the Yale Movie House in New Haven, CT in 1982 during it's opening week debut. I walked in not knowing anything, got stuck in the first row becasue it was a packed house, and I left with my eyes wide open and my grey matter melting from my ears. It's not as cool now (I have it on DVD and try to get new generation to view it) becasue so many of the cool time lapse and other photographic effects done by Director Godfrey Reggio have been pirated over the years and now it seems commonplace. But the soundtrack to Koy is awesome and the transistion to Muse was fantastic.
If you like Glass, listen to Glassworks.

I watched this with my fiancee, and she said "that looks really dumb." I had to agree. I love the novel, and I'm very impressed at how they've recreated the panels as shots in the movie, but the movie looks dumb.
If the film in any way captures the intelligence of the novel, they left those parts out of the trailer. Turns out, if you take away all the stuff that makes Watchmen so smart, it looks pretty dumb. The irony!
