NES Air Max Sneakers Are Dignified Even If Geriatric
Posted by Mark Wilson at 11:20 PM on November 6, 2008
They aren't exactly what we pictured, but we can't deny that Nintendo and Nike's dual venture NES Air Max sneakers do invoke fond memories of the drab Nintendo Entertainment System. Featuring two tones of grey and a stripe of muted reddishness, only the keen sneaker aficionado will notice the subtle reference to the Start button, but anyone who doesn't get it might not be worth talking to anyway. Available now, our guess is that collectors will gobble stock quickly if they're not already gone. [kicksonfire via Kotaku]

@Curves: My old school colors are even worse. In high school, our colors were green and "gold" (ochre yellow). In college, our colors were violet and gray.

@User Formerly known as Arelar: I have some retro Jordans. They are a cheap knock-off I bought on eBay. The seller guaranteed that the shoes were authentic. It hurts to wear the shoes, but I look really cool in them. I get lots of compliments on them, when I can stand to wear them.

I like the subtle control pad pattern in the gray area.
But yeah, i was just looking at my NES last night and thinking how 80s it's design and color scheme are, and how it probably was perceived as "futuristic" back then. Like if you compare an early 1980s Toyota Celica with it's sharp angles and heavy black accents with a modern one.

If the tops were darker it would look like you're wearing the A-Team van on your feet.

@Zlevee: And those Celicas look 100x better than the high school-girl car that Toyota now calls the "Celica".

@User Formerly known as Arelar: and if they're in decent condition, a little shoe deodorant and they might have some collectors' value.

I'm pretty sure "geriatric" is what they were shooting for when you get Nintendo involved.
