New Xbox 360 Motherboard Leaked, Has 256MB Flash Memory

3:01PM November 28, 2008 | Jesus Diaz

Jasper, the next version of the Xbox 360 motherboard, has been leaked and apparently it comes with new unannounced goodies. Apart from the rumoured 65nm graphics processing unit–the unit uses a 150W power supply, 25W less than before, which signals a lower consumption most probably caused by the reduced GPU footprint–the new units allegedly come with a new south bridge and, surprise surprise, a 256MB flash memory chip for internal storage.

Stephen Fry Slams the BlackBerry Storm

2:19PM November 28, 2008 | Jesus Diaz

We have a soft spot for genius comedian-actor-writer-gadget-juggler Stephen Fry here at the Giz. He speaks things as he sees them, as an end user, with his usual wit. Lately he has been playing with a BlackBerry Storm and, like our review, he thinks that it’s no you-know-who killer. In fact, he completely smashes it in his condensed Twitter review:

Dell And Vodafone To Sell 3G Netbook Bundle For $0 Upfront

Flag
2:00PM November 28, 2008 | Nick Broughall

Just the other day it was announced that Dell was partnering with AT&T in the US to offer a Mini 9 Netbook with a mobile data contract. Now David Flynn over at APC is reporting that Dell and Vodafone are shacking up in Australia to offer a free Mini 9 netbook on a $70 contract for 24 months. The deal includes 5GB of mobile data each month, and is expected to be announced next week and be available in December.

Doing a bit of maths, you’re still better off buying the Mini 9 up front and then adding the Vodafone 5GB data pack with USB modem for $40 a month (it works out about $120 cheaper). But sometimes convenience is everything, isn’t it?

Head on over to APC for a full cost breakdown of the bundle, and if you’re in the market for both a netbook and a wireless internet contract, maybe hold off for a week or two until we receive the official announcement…

Dealzmodo: Get A Free Wii When You Buy A Full HD Panasonic Plasma

Flag
12:30PM November 28, 2008 | Nick Broughall

Remember when Sony gave away a PS3 with every Bravia purchased? You should, they did it twice. Well Panasonic has taken a leaf from Sony’s book to try and entice you to buy one of their Full HD plasmas this holiday season by offering a free Nintendo Wii via redemption when you pick up one of their Full HD plasmas.

I’m not quite sure this promotion will have the same effect as the Sony one – the PS3 makes the most of your HD panel, while the Wii’s 480p maximum resolution looks pretty average on a large screen. But then again, the Wii is still selling like hotcakes, even though there aren’t any really enticing games, so this could be a masterstroke from Panny.

The promotion kicks off tomorrow (November 29) and ends Christmas Eve, and is valid on Panny’s Full HD plasmas, a full list of which is available below. More »

If You Hate The Idea Of A Filtered Internet, You Should Probably Sign This…

By now you’re probably aware that the Rudd Government are planning on filtering the internet for every Australian. And I’m sure that you are aware just how bad an idea it is. If you’re not, check out our previous post on the subject. Anyway, if you want to let the Government know what a bunch of tossers they are being by proceeding with live trials, even when all the closed trials results should have shouted out in big red letters: “THIS ISN’T GOING TO WORK”, the GetUp.org is calling for you to sign their petition.

I know, petitions are a bit of a nothing way of demonstration, but considering the massive push GetUp are putting behind their efforts to thwart the Government’s filtering program, it can’t hurt to add your name to the list. And it might actually make a difference.

To sign the petition, point your browser here. Do it now.

Phone Gaming Just Got Upgraded: Quake 3 Arena Now Playable On Select S60 Handsets

9:30AM November 28, 2008 | Nick Broughall

Pretty much all anybody talks about when they talk about phone gaming these days is the iPhone. Sure, you might get the occasional reference to N-Gage, or Brickbreaker might get an update, but that’s about it, right? Wrong. As of today, if you’re the proud owner of a Nokia N95 8GB, N82 or E90 handset, you can now play Quake 3 Arena on your mobile, with full multiplayer.

Of course, playing a full-blown FPS with a phone’s awkward, packed keypad isn’t exactly appealing, so the ported game as full Bluetooth keyboard and mouse support. Just forget for a moment what playing a game with a full keyboard and mouse while watching your phone’s tiny screen would be like for a second and consider that this is actually a triumph for modern handsets. The fact that we can play a game that required top-of-the-line hardware a decade ago on our mobile phones is newsworthy just in itself.

If you own one of the three compatible phones and want to get your Quake 3 Arena action on, click the link below and follow the instructions. Just remember though – you’ll need to own a copy of the game for this to work.

Seagate’s ‘Computer Friends’ Really Want You to Invest in 1.5 Terabytes of Storage

9:00AM November 28, 2008 | Adrian Covert

Historically, nerd rap has been attached to the Aesop Rocks, Lupe Fiascos, and Kool Keiths of the world, but with this recent trend of viral-y, tech related hip hop vids (See: Large Hadron Rap), that classification is taking on an entirely new meaning altogether. Case in point, Seagate’s “Computer Friends” video, which pairs a couple of ironically wiggeriffic cubical emcees together with their token black co-worker (for a ghetto pass, presumably) to spit a hot 16 about their beloved computers, and the need for more storage, specifically a 1.5TB HDD. However, I still think your money would be better spent on an SSD.

How to Buy an HDTV Tomorrow (or Any Day)

8:00AM November 28, 2008 | Matt Buchanan

Despite this month looking like the kick-off to the next Great Depression, a bunch of you are probably still planning to (finally) hop on the HDTV bandwagon. And all things considered, that’s not a totally stupid move. A great HDTV—one that will blow away the standard definition puke you’ve been watching for years—can be had for a damn good price. But if you’re planning on checking out HDTVs tomorrow (or ever), read this first:
