Waiting in Line Now Fastest Way to Get T-Mobile G1
Posted by Matt Buchanan at 7:30 AM on October 7, 2008
When T-Mobile announced that they had sold out of the initial G1 pre-order and were tripling production to meet demand, they said that you could still pre-order a phone through Oct. 21 to receive it at a later date. Unfortunately, it looks like a much later date. If you pre-ordered one after Oct. 3, you'll have to wait until at least Nov. 10 to get your phone. Meaning at this point it's probably better to just line up on launch day if you're dying to get your hands on one as soon as possible and didn't plunk down your money early. My friend works for Google UK and he just showed me his G1. A load of employees have been given the phones to try out and evaluate. I have to say I am very impressed. Its a really intuitive interface and its also beautiful to look at and use. I can see this taking off big time and it could definitely steal symbian, windows mobile and Iphones thunder.

I hope that was sarcasm. I don't own an iPhone but I really don't see this as the "killer" they all talk about. I just doesn't have the same je ne sais quoi.

I hope it's unlocked quick so I can test it out with my AT&T sim. This and the iPhone are really changing the mobile market. If only the carriers would change their ways. I though apple was on to something with the at home activation and unsubsidized price... But then again it's all about the Benjamins.

The G1 definitely won't be a killer but put android on iPhone like hardware and the possibilities are really endless. I think the biggest thing the iPhone has going for it is the fact it's an iPod. People are use to iTunes and have used it far to long to change their ways. This is what I think will prevent anything from competing with the iPhone in a majority of the market. The business world, now that's a different story.

Far from a killer, but that dont mean I aint dying to get mine in the mail. Funny thing about this phone is its not about the PHONE,its about the OS. I am glad that its HTC to bring this chinFULL phone to our gadget hungry hands

@dorkboy: Ya I think your right about that. I wasn't totally sure but it definitely would be useless on just edge. Android is going to be cool though and I can't wait to get my hands on it.

I'm going to wait until it's packaged with the usb to 3.5 headphone thingy. They said they're going to start packaging that, but won't on the first released, right? I'm thinking, wait till it's out, read some reviews and actual user's comments, check out the apps, and get it a few weeks later with headphone support in-package.

@Ryan Goins: correct me if im wrong, but isnt the g1 only usable on att's edge band. Seems kind of a waste to only use this phone on edge.

@Ryan Goins: Frankly, the unsubsidized price didn't really mean much because it was still locked to AT&T, which meant that (dicey hacks notwithstanding) you're just getting all the disadvantages of the current landscape without any of the advantages. When somebody's actually ready to give us an UNLOCKED phone like this at an unsubsidized price, then we shall talk.

@Ryan Goins: Maybe that's why I don't see the appeal of the iPhone; I have a strong hatred for iTunes. Slow, sluggish, and bloaty. Give me Amarok or MediaMonkey anyday -- both feature-rich, but actually still perform decently.

@HeartBurnKid, creepy morbid freak: Ya that's the only thing that get's me with the iPhone. That and I have all macs so the simplicity is nice and convenient. If I had a PC though there is no way in hell I would use iTunes and would therefore probably not have an iPhone.

@HeartBurnKid, creepy morbid freak: Ya your right it was still the same bullshit. I guess that didn't really make sense what I said because the price was higher but you still had to sign the contract. Thanks for catching me on that.

Funny I have iTunes and have stopped using my iPod since the Blackberry Media Sync software was released. I'm not saying Media sync is awesome, but it works with iTunes playlists so you can use iTunes for organization and playlist creation and use a phone for playback that i choose. I don't have to carry two devices and have the best of both worlds.

Wow, just mentioning an overlord gets your comment disemvoweled? That seems fairly petty and ironfisted just because some might consider it cheesy. I think his comment here was on point and humorous because of the refreshing addition of a new ideology of mobile communication.

Apparently not clever enough!
