Vintage Flying Car Lands on eBay's Auction Table
Posted by Gizmodo US Edition at 4:00 PM on October 3, 2008
Are you an ultra-rich tech enthusiast with a hankering to own a piece of aero-automobile history? Moller International is now offering its M200X, the first flying car of its kind, up for sale on that veritable auction house of luxury, eBay. The M200X is a 2-passenger Vertical Take-Off and Landing (VTOL) vehicle that has completed over 200 manned and unmanned flight demonstrations since 1989. Currently, bids are up to $US18,888... but the reserve hasn't been met yet so you still have a chance to swoop in and snatch it up. [eBay via gizmag]

Everything about that bottom-right picture look photoshopped to me.

@undefined: The one on the top left is the same story. I would say the whole thing was a hoax if I hadn't seen the video. Of course it would also seem it hasn't flown in twenty years.

With a couple of little green guy suits, you could have a really good time with this....or if you were not exactly honest, extort some serious money from people to get you to fly back to Mars and leave them here.

Every video I've ever seen of this thing in operation always shows the thing tethered to a crane.
Attach a tether to my body and I can accomplish the same thing by flapping my arms.

Moller must be getting desperate for cash. He's been promising the flying-car for decades with it always being, "just around the corner". This started in the 1970s.... 30 years later and this is the only craft that ever flew with a significant international audience. What is the deal?

An $18,000 price tag does not mean you have to be "ultra-rich" to afford it. Even for the "merely rich", $18,000 is an impulse buy - like gum in the checkout line.
Not that the merely rich would know what a checkout line is.

@Netscott: I know! I've been waiting on the flying car most of my life. Not having one available sure made the year 2000 pretty damn dull.

Moeller must be running out of money for the MX400 development.

@OMG! Ponies!: Eh, I think you have to have the cash though. No banker is going to finance a flying car from the 80's.

SkyCar, rocks! Moller's concepts are great! But, only if it had Microvision's windshield designs with some other functions and concepts added to it too, especially the latest Skycar designs!
